Wazza looks after me pretty well with prices, and one of my mates works there, so a little free advertisment doesn't bother me.

depends if your happy to pay sticker price. A lot of the time there sticker price is quite high, however very few people actually pay that, and if you actually got to know wazza you would be very hard pressed to find a better price for stuff.

How are those super swampers going fullberries? Got a good bargain from waz $1300 for 5 36in swampers with simex tubes. Don't complain too much, also how is your mates high mount going that we fixed? He loves it when i spoke to him a few weeks ago.

I havn't had mine made up yet, however it will pretty much be the same as what Rob (TUFFRANGIE) has in his supercharged shorty, it's simply a custom box with 4 inch inlet and outlet and a 4 inch pod filter inside. It can be seen just to the left of Rob's battery in the picture below. (hope you don't mind me using your picture Rob)

couple more things been done to the truck now, i've converted my IPF spotties to HID's, fitted a PWR alloy radiator which completely fixed my overheating problem, fitted a new airbox with 3.5 inch inlet and outlet which meant i could remove about 1m of intake plumbing to help tidy up engine bay, also had a PWR water to air barrel intercooler fitted an the boost wound up to 15 psi

whats the PWR intercooler worth?
gqtrav
16-03-2007, 08:24 AM
The intercooler kit is around $1600, that inlcudes the barrel, water pump, thermo fan, radiator etc..., although by the time you add all the pipe work, brass fittings, electrical items and all the other small bits and pieces required it ended up being close to $2000 in parts.

Just a quick update. Had a 4 point cage installed at Smithies Outback Gear. Very happy with the job that Greg did. I had him make it without the mesh because i'm not sure if i want mesh or not. I had an old roof rack at home which i cut the mesh out of and put that in place for the moment to see if i like it or not.

G'day Trav, what can you tell me about your intercooler? I have a TD42 GU that has had a bit of work done on the factory turbo, I want to get an intercooler. Yours looks great, how does it work mate, worth the coin? Did you get it done by PWR or get someone else to fit it? Any retune done for pump and injectors? Any info you could give me would be appreciated, it's a bit hard to get any performance work done on your 4WD up here in the NT.:drink:

Looks great. Hope I can build mine to look and handle the train as well as yours.

G'day JenoNT. The intercooler works like a large heat exchange. Obviously the air flows through the barrel from the turbo to the inlet manifold, and the water flows through the barrel in to opposite direction, cooling the air. The water is pumped via a small electric water pump to a small radiator at the front of the car, where the water is cooled, and then it goes back and through the barrel again. There is also a thermo fan on the radiator. Large front mount air to air intercoolers work well while the car is moving at a reasonable speed, however a lot of 4WDriving is at slow speed where the intercooler wouldn't be working too well. Top mount air to air intercoolers suffer the same problem as front mounts regarding speed, however some people try to get around this by fitting a thermofan to there top mount intercooler. This works to a point, however because the entire intercooler is ontop of the engine, they can get quite warm.
Before i had the intercooler installed i was running 10 psi, with the fuel pump wound up a bit. The car went well, however on hill climbs i would have to back off when the EGT's got to 600. When i had the intercooler installed, i also had the boost set to 15 psi and the fuel pump wound up to max, and i now have trouble getting the EGT's over 450. I had my injectors replaced 2 months before i had the intercooler installed, therefore nothing had to be done to them. I believe if you can afford it, the water to air barrel is the way to go. Another thing you would need to check is if you could fit a barrel large enough. All the diesel specialists i spoke to about water to air intercoolers believe the barrel supplied with the denco kit is too small. If i didn't have a body lift, i wouldn't have been able to fit the barrel that i have.

Because of the 4 point cage, the false floor i had made where the back seats were need to be redesigned. This is how the false floor used to look
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/storage.jpg
The space in the false floor is where the fridge sat. The role bar made this spot no good because i could no longer open the lid all the way. 1st idea to fix this was to sit the fridge as close to the main hoop as possible.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/fridge1.jpg
With the fridge in this position i could now open the lid, but i thought after a few beers i would easily fit my head on the bar, so i decided to put the fridge on a slide. For this to work i also had to modify the door hinges with the 4 inch grinder, so i could open the door all the way up.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/fridge2.jpg
I still need to redesign the rest of the false floor, but atleast now i can easily get to the cold beer :D

How easy is it to make a snorkle just like yours?? Price of parts and how does it attach to the a pillar?
Could I make one, myself?? How hard is it?

Thanks Trav, I appreciate the info, although I knew what an intercooler does, I really wanted to know how that PWR of yours was working out, but I think you answered that. You are doing a top job, the GQ looks great, thanks for you help and keep it up.

Well i think it's time for a new panhard, the rear decided to brake while i was up at Neerim on the long weekend.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/P6100133.jpg
Managed to do a temp fix with a branch, a few hose clamps, cable ties and a rachet strap
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/P6100138.jpg
Looking at the thickness of the standard panhard, i think the fix we did was nearly stronger

I've now finished the false floor between the draws and the cage.
This was the drivers side with just the fridge and base in place.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/D1.jpg
I then made up the frame for the drivers side
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/D2.jpg
Then cut up the old false floor so i could use the timber i had already carpeted. The gap between the cage and the false floor is for the camp table, so it's easy to get to.

I had a rear air locker installed the other day, so the cars now twin locked.
My new compressor and air tank also arrived in the mail the other day. It's a Boss 3/4 hp compressor and 15 lt air tank
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/P6200140.jpg
The compressor fitted nicely between the drivers seat and the cage and the air tank is mounted ontop of the false floor just behind the cage on the drivers side
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/P6210142.jpg
Did a quick comparison between this and my ARB compressor
Tyre: 35x12.5x15 Simex ET2
Pressure: 18 - 32 psi
ARB: 5 min 50 sec
Boss without airtank: 1 min 50 sec
Boss with air tank: 45 seconds
My mates belt driven compressor is faster than this again, however i thought 45 seconds was pretty good for a 12 volt compressor.

Well i thought it's about time for the winch to get a little TLC, so in the last couple of weeks it's had a service, 6 HP winch motor, braces added to the back, breathers added to the motor and the housing, filler and drain plugs added, clip through the free spool and also a brake shaft mod incase the clip ever lets go.

Another update. I'm takeing 12 months of next year and heading off around Australia, so i have been spending some time (and money) getting the car ready.
1st thing i did was give it a good clean, remove the 35" simex and put on some 33" mickey thompson MTX.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/33s1.jpg
I've installed a full length roof rack, you can also see the shovel holder i made out of a couple of clamps, some 50 mm conduit and an occy strap, and also the pipe for holding the poles on the other side of the rack.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/PB140220.jpg
I also quickly knocked up some front mudflaps to try and keep the car a bit cleaner
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/PB140221.jpg
Also installed a 2nd fuel tank, giving me over 200 lt of usable diesel, and i had my aircon fixed (the aircon joint broke their tool trying to get the siezed clutch off the shaft)
And on the weekend i installed an FX324 GPS and a new CD player
