I've only had Ron Burgandy for about 3 months and recently been starting to get into the 4wd Monthly mag's, they are a very good read... This site is just the same, plenty of information for the new comers.
When i first got it...

It's not to bad, it has some interesting sections. It's a good track for new comers, as it's got all levels of difficulty.
Nice lux mate bad luck on the motor :(

It's been considered... But I've decided to stick with the 3L mainly for insurance reasons and bolt a turbo (or considering a supercharger) onto it down the track. I've got another car for going fast...

Just got a call that i was hoping i wouldn't recieve. Engine's at the machine shop and they've just crack tested the crank... Yep that's right it's cracked... Quickest way to blow the budget...

Well just a small update, engine arrives back in my hands tomorrow (ended up getting the machine shop to rebuild the long motor) so i can't wait. Everthing under the bonnet has been fixed/replaced so she's going to be a good reliable car for many years...
Obviously the whole engine was rebuild and it now sports a new crank shaft after the old one failing a crack test. Rebuilt injector pump, new injectors (old ones were injecting a wet mix and weren't up to pressure), new clutch Exedy heavy duty kit (looking forward to seeing how this goes), radiator serviced and more. I'm going to have the car dyno tuned on Monday to make sure it's running right..
Also out of curiousity would you recommend using running in oil throught the engine as i've been told that it's not needed by the engine builder?

nice lux, nope don;t need a running in oil. good penrite stuff tho, and change it between 800-1000km;s after rebuild. this gets rid of the assemble lube that they will put the engine together with. 8)

How does a diesel differ to a petrol engine regarding running in oil??

Well new engine's got 150km's on it and she's running very nicely, a few noises that i need to suss out (nothing that sounds major), it's good to have her back... Now time to hit the tracks...

Looks like some fun had there with RON, is that a bent step on the left?
Looks like a lift comming on.
To reduce the amount of panel damage I hear?
Great to see the lux back on the track.

This was up at Powerlines which is in the hills. Next time i'm hoping to head down south, as i've seen some good pictures from the tracks down there. The girlfriend gave him the name, she loves that movie...

Yes it is bent, it's from when the previous owner had the car.
Some 35's with 80 series diffs hey Ken haha...
It had been about 2 months between 4wding.

Well it's been a few months now so I thought i might update things.
Not too much has been done from a performance point of view but since the last post I've done:
- the rear axle bearings and brake shoes
- Front swivel hubs and axle bearings
- Replaced the Harmonic ballance after the bonding on one side of the rubber let go, in the process put a hole in the radiator.
- Universal joint in rear axle
- Replaced rear glass on canopy
Can't think of anything else at the moment but i took the car out last weekend to a few good spots around Perth, Lancelin - wedge - Cervantes. Was really good and being my first adventure onto sand (did plenty of reading on here before i went) i was impressed with how the car handled. Although i'm needing to get a few leafs taken out or get new springs so the suspension works a little more on the bumps/rocks. I've got Rancho adjustables but not really sure which way to go for what conditions so i've never touched them.
Anyway I"ll put a few shots up from the weekend.

Just make sure you keep an eye on the oil and you 'should' be ok.
Mine went at 294 284km's.

Well it's been some time since I updated this thread and seeing as i've now done a few things I shall.
Since the last time i've finally got the turbo fitted and tuned with the following performance figures... I did origianally fit an Intercooler however didn't like how i had it so took it off. Will fit another one down the track.
58kW (79Hp) at 3288rpm and 197Nm at 2423rpm was the initial run
67kW (90Hp) at 3490rpm and 220Nm at 2438rpm both on 9psi and running 33" MTZ which would have pulled out some power.
As mentioned above I've not fitted new boots to him in the form of 33x12.5r15 Mickey Thompson MTZ on 15x10 king rims. Very happy with the new setup although after some testing what i knew was going to be the case happened. Big rubbing issues in the front SO on it's way is a 2" body lift. Some luck I'll have it for the weekend.
Other visible things are the 240 Blitz lightforce spotties, new head lights, CB radio which is a TX4400 din mounted under the cd player.
Always plenty to do and plenty of time to do it.
Here's a few photo's of how it is now.

Cheers,
Goes well, I found out tonight that the 33's have done some minor damage to the underside of the 1/4 panels. I'm going to need to fit that body lift when it gets here...

Installed 2" body lift yesterday, pretty easy job really. To finish it off just need to extend the gear stick so that works properly.

I just did 2"body lift on mine 92 sr5, i had a simillar problem with gear stick, i found by cutting two notch's into the shaft to allow it to bend, then re welding it, bringing it away from drivers side. removing the top rubber, aand cutting the small tin plate that holds the rubber down, it works great.

I never had a problem with the gearstick, but we had to chop a little bit out of the steering shaft to let it sit properly again.

It's weird how no 2 lifts are the same. I didn't have any problems with the steering, in fact i think it may have fixed some of my previous steering issues. I'm going to lift the gear stick back to it's original position, all gears can be found currently but reverse is a real pain.
Couple from the weekend.

Good job mate, the lux is lookin' awesome!
I have a 96 sr5 2.8 looking to rebuild when saved enough as shes getting a few ks, just wondering if worth the dollars putting turbo on when i rebuild you think? fair price i'd rekn wouldn it?
Are there any other things that best be done to keep them reliable as the standard motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated! ;)
Thanks,
LuXdude
