Hey all

Thought I would post this here as RoeDao and BT among others have a fair bit of local knowledge.

As we dont live far from there - am looking at doing a few day trips up there in the coming weeks. Wanted to know a few pointers on the area - initially just for touring but if there is any specific 4wd hints I'd also like them just for future reference (and I would imagine others too here would benefit...)

Have asked around and been given some general info on tracks and the like on the southside (Mt Allyn/Jeruselem Falls), but have been told to ask here in regards to the Polblue area, in particular the Polblue and Wangat Trig areas (have been told to avoid Wangat in the wet)

What are the conditions between Polblue and Mt Barrington (Barrington Trail). Same question for the roads to Gloucester Tops. Also - what is the road like from the Wollooma side of things (I think roedao has been there)

What areas would members here say are worthing missing, and more importantly what areas are not. Any hints/tips greatly appreciated.

Bear in mind that this isnt going to be attempted all at once or solitary - so if you have any information, even if its not pertinent to what I am planning on doing know I would love to hear it.

Cheers & thanks in advance
Owen

Owen,
I have always found that the tops are a good visit.
If you are going to try to drive some of the tracks past Jerusalem falls, make sure you go with someone, preferable with a winch.
There are some DEEP muddy sections I have seen vehicles go into, but need plenty of work to get back out.
Wangat Trig has a few easy - medium tracks (and some fun ones if you want to explore) & as a general rule, I would not take any tracks off the main forest roads in the wet, especially if alone. That goes for all of Barrington, not just a few areas.
Generally, the places I wouldn't go to would only be the ones I can't get to, thru either locked gates, or terrain too difficult. One of my bogy tracks at the moment is the one behind the CC4WDC lease (leads eventually to Monkerai Rd) & there is one section I have had plenty of difficulty & have not yet conquered unassisted.
I have found generally, there are too many tracks to see for just one weekend, so if you are planning on exploring, take your time & go many times. You will never be bored with the tops.

Hi Norbet....... i haven't explored a great deal of the Tops........ just part of it.... like BT said it's hard to get bored or see it all in a day. If you want an interesting track to do, try Bungaree trail hehe it's a little washed out and rather steep in points but a lot of fun. You can get maps from NPWS and also toppo maps from most newsagents. I try to get up there as often as i can, it's nice up there. Even on the forest trails......... the forest and the scenery is lovely. If you want to do a day up there, msg me and we will try to organise something one weekend before they close the tracks for winter.

I visit a hut on Allan Shulst's property(cobark) occasionally, beautiful up gloucester all year round, even when the barrington river is freezing we manage to go for a swim.

On our last trip up there we desperately looked for some 4wding outside of ppl's properties using the maps of course. But all we found where alot of tracks where we scratched the hell outta our paintwork.

Will be going up to the Upper Allan in the next couple of months if work allows me, it's good fun up there.
