Just wondering if there was any 4WDing to be down around Hill End. I've heard there is a bit on the Bridle Track but just how much and how tough is what I want to know?

Not alot.
The Bridle track is pretty tame, but a good touring trip for anything from softroader up.
There is the occasional track off the bridle track which is a little more fun.

Is Mad Man's territory still open at Hill End?

Re: Madmans Territory.
It was open when we did a club trip mid-last year. Fella by the name of Peter had taken it over. Charge was about $50 per vehicle, including camping.
We had plenty of fun there ;D ;)
Cheers

The Bridle track is a nice day out. It can be made longer if you like.
If you go into Orange and then head north toward ...........dam, turn right onto Long point road when you get to Mullion Creek and keep going straight. It wopuld be best to try and check with some locals re rain fall in the area as the river crossing is not passable after rain. Usually the river crossing at long point is about rim/axle depth.....
From here cross the river and head up the hill. There are a nukber of gates and you do cross a few private properties, no problems just leave the gates as you found them.
When you get to the end of the road, one direction left, goes towards Mudgee and the other right heads into Hill end.
There is a nice pub. with a good beer garden and great food, on the left..... one of few buildings left in town. If you go the store across the street from the pub they will give you directions to the Madmans property......
From hill end you can continue on the bridle track towards Bathurst... its a nice drive on mostly dirt roads. As you come down the hill and along side the river, there is a water crossing, this is called roothog crossing. The water crossing is goo and again may come up to the sills, or deeper if there has been rain. This crossing is usually good, as it is maintained by the Canobolas 4wd club. If you go across the water crossing, this road heads back into Orange, or else continue onto Bathurst.....
If you need more info call the Opposite Lock at Orange, and speak with the guys therel, they will know where to go and who to speak with.
Have fun

THERE IS A COUPLE OF MORE CHALLENGING TRACKS OFF THE BRIDLE TRACK FOR THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO GO LOOKING. WE DID A TRIP TO MADMANS LAST JULY, ITS A NICE SPOT TO SPEND A WEEKEND, BUT FOR $50 TO ENTER I DIDNT THINK IT HAD TOO MUCH TO OFFER IN THE WAY OF 4WD TRACKS, AND THERES PLENTY OF NICE CAMPING SPOTS ALONG THE RIVER ON THE BRIDLE TRACK THAT ONLY COST $5 A NIGHT TO CAMP ON
