Who said the TJ was currently running? :-X
Umm.just joined, looks like a fun site! My current fourby is a stock 90 Vit Auto.....had to sell my much modified and loved blue Sierra, Tonka. Some of you other Sydney guys might see it around.....stands out in a crowd! LOL Why did I sell it? Injury . At least the Vit's a bit smoother! :'(

Hi, I've just joined. In fact I only started buying the mag a few weeks ago but I'm racking up the back issues.
I recently inherited a 1981 SWB 3.0 diesel Patrol from my dad and I reckon it's the most abused fourby in existence.
With 400,000 on the clock its had the clutch replaced once... That's it.
Anything that broke got disconnected and thrown away. Radio, heater, fuel cut-off device (there's a piece of 12-guage wire through the dash you have to yank on to kill the motor), etcetera.
It has done the Daintree twice, Canarvon, Atherton Tablelands, Snowy Mountains, just about anywhere in Queensland worth going and beyond.
There is rust galore, the radiator leaks and anything with a hinge is either about to fall off or will never open again.
The problem is I have a huge sentimental attachement to the beast and on a recent trip to Inskip Point (near Fraser Island) it actually performed better than my friend's 1992 Forerunner (I even bent his towpoint beyond recognition snatching him out of some soft sand). Plus the engine never fails to start and sounds like it will run till the end of time.
My question: Is the old girl worth repairing or should it be laid to rest?
If anyone has a fwd in worse condition I'd like to hear about it. :)

Welcome Yoda1982.
If it's registerred, roadworthy, gets you where you wanna go, is safe & is reliable. That's the reasons I would keep it.
If it's gonna cost a packet to make it in that, time to say your goodbyes.
Who needs a heater in Queensland anyway.
Sounds like a gem ;D ;) If the maintnence/running costs are to high, sell it. if not don't
Cheers and welcome to the forum

g'day Wooders
my wife bought herself a TJ recently after deciding my cruiser was too big to drive.
She's become obsessed, taking it bush, talking about modifying it and worst of all now she wants me to trade the cruiser in on a Grand.
It must be a jeep thing I dont understand
I have to admit though the little beeps a heap of fun ;)

LOL mate I see your rig regularly along that sefton road area....but Normally we are in the Volvo so I don't think yoyu notice us....but on Thurs we were taking the TJ to get a new exhaust and I was so preoccupied (nursing it missing one control arm) that I didn't see you....

Mate drop the roof, remove the doors & fold down the windscreen as you slip it into 4x4 and you'll soon understand.....But if she starts modding it you have too look out - it would be easy to spend more $$ on the Jeep and also it could end up a lot more capable ;)

Wooders i could have nearly made you proud my man.
After attending the ASCC event Rd2 up here in Townsville on the weekend, i decided to gie the comp scene a go.
To the papers hit the tail and having a ltle investigative experience i thought the CJ7 with no mods but in great condition with new paint sounded like a bloody top deal.
I lined up an appointment with the lady involved in the deal to have a gander and when arriving ws told that a previous prospective buyer had rung and reserved a deal, was a little dissapointing as it looked like a sweet deal ::)
Oh well that's life i guess, it's all good and that's what fate was invented for is'nt it 8)

Reddo,
#5 cost me $500 for the rig and a about as much again to get the darn thing (ie fuel & trailer rental etc).....
But they are a rare beast & I now have 2 of 'em so I'm happy ;D
Freak,
Shame anout missing the CJ7 - but if you want a comp rig go a CJ8 instead anyway as the extra wheelbase is a godsend....
As for the typos ...it's too early for my eyes so it looked fine... ;)
