Me and a few mates are looking to head up to Barrington Tops in the coming months, probably camp at Polblue and go exploring around the joint. I'm aiming to be up there when its snowing as Ive never actually seen snow as such yet (and it's something I want to do before I turn 21!).
No firm answers needed yet, just a shout out to see whether or not anyone from here's interested too?
I think Poleblue is closed in winter due to snow etc mate ;)

Damn :P That's why I wanted to go there!
I'll be heading up with the family camping on the Anzac long weekend as per usual. Great place and would no doubt be up for a trip there later in the year if you organise it Brendan. ;)

The only time i've been there was with the 4WDM forum trip and 99% was easy going stuff. There was one hard track but only 4 or 5 of us tried that, the others went back to camp....

The last time was probably 10 years ago, but we were camping in the area before it snowed. The rangers came in told us to leave and closed the roads behind us

I`d be keen to go and see the snow also. Might even be able to bring a mate in his Prado. as long as its easy to medium tracks we should be able to keep up.
I`d just have to remember to put the sleeping bag in the swag aswell
Do you have a rough idea of what month you might be going

Same as me, we'll be right, maybe we should make it a later date, August???

As for the later date in August, it's Capt's thread so It's really up to him. I can definetly fit in another trip in August.
Brendan
29-05-2006, 03:10 PM
Let's just settle on a date that works for everyone, and go around there. I'll be away from August 12-28 at Fraser Island, so anytime before or after then is fine.
Everyone put down when you're not available and we can work around that!

On the forum trip we did there last year the only reasonably difficult track we did was I think called Bungaree Trail, the rest were easy. If Barrington Trail is not gated off that is probably another track that could be done.
Will have a look at the Forestry map to see if there are any others. Simon may know of some?
simonsurf
15-06-2006, 07:44 PM
All the best ones I knew from the old days are well and truly locked and blocked. I'm pretty sure the Barrington trail will be closed (seasonal) and Bungaree(?) is the only toughie I know.
Maybe we can just do the same as last time so everyone gets a chance to have a go.
We might have to find a back-up camping area as well just in case Polblue gets closed for snow.

Not sure about k's between stops , wont be too much.
The only car that had fuel issues last time was Humpy's suzi and i think it only has a 40? litre tank and the choke was stuck chewing more fuel than usual.
At a guess i would say around 200-300kms

If you head up towards the dingo fence that is state forest so you can take wood from there. might need to go bush to find it though :-\
Could be an idea to buy a bag from a servo on the way up ;)

Had a great time and met some top blokes. On Sunday arvo GUHOON, greylux and myself decided to go home the long way, via Stony Ridge rd (???). We missed the turn off (it's unmarked and in the middle of some cocky's paddock ::) ) and continued on along Stewarts Brook rd (???) and made an executive group decision to follow it and see where it goes. After a very slippery climb we happened upon a massive tree over the road and had to turn back. Does anyone know where this road leads to??
After turning around we went back to where we thought the turnoff was through a pretty heavy shower of rain. After we found it we started the steep slippery climb up the ridge. As we climbed higher we got onto the clay sections which nearly brought us undone. I was in the lead and almost got stuck on a gentle rise which had been chewed out previously that day. Even with both lockers on, muddies and a good dose of loud pedal I only made it up after 3 or 4 attempts. The other Simon in greylux was next and had a couple of goes before we decided to snatch him up to save chewing the track up. Sean in the GU was last and had a good run up and just made it up on his 1st attempt.
The conditions improved after that so we decided to keep going up rather than turn back. This, however, did not last long. Another extremely slippery section had the 2 Tojos scrabbling upwards after opening a gate. Sean had to stop to close the gate and could not get any momemtum up when he took off again. This brought the big GU undone and he had to be snatched up by the Surf.
A decision was made to continue up the mountain as I knew conditions would improve along the top and down the other side - apart from one section of black clay as you start the descent.
I had a few pucker moments coming down here becuause I simply had no steering for about 50 metres. The Lux came down in a similar fashion but poor old Sean nearly had a quick ride to the bottom. He reckons that's the closest he's ever come to actually crapping himself. Anyway, once we made it safely to the bottom we headed off home to unpack and wash our filthy cars.
Don't ever drive Stony Ridge Rd in the wet!!!
Will post up some pics soon......

Those are some great shots you took simon, its a pity that we were too busy trying to get home without a major mishap cause some shots of us doing the stoney ridge would have been great. I reckon i was carrying at least 50kgs of mud cause the attentant at carlovers had the major shits after he saw the mess I left him, but the $22 should have made up for it. Its a pity dan and coey left early they would have enjoyed that last track. Those shots you took dan are also good ill definitly remember to charge the camera up next time. And dan if your going to stockton give me a yell ill be there for sure ( this time on time!). Thank guys it was a good trip ill be there in the summer if we do another trip. ;D
Cheers Greylux(simon)
