I've noticed that when i sit at the lights, i rest my hand on the gear shift (4wd details below), does this hurt the gearbox??

i dont think it is, just if u move the shifter forward or back its makes some kind of mechnaical noise

well i have just been told this because i have not heard of it and thats y i asked in the first place
"resting your hand on the gear shift can put a small amount of load on the selectors ,in return that can put presure on the syncro rings and wear them out prematurely"

also it may wear the numbers of the top of the stick

and if there is bad vibration and you have soft hands you may get a blister. ;D
