Looking at some cheap muddies to run before i get some lift. I found out i could get the simex mud terrains for $135 a tyre. :o The size being 31x10.5x15. Are these a decent tyre compared to say the Hankook MT wich is around the same price. Has anyone run on them?

Thanks ;)

I wonder what price they can do a 32 * 10.5 * 16 as my ATs are starting to get closer (about 10,000km to go I reckon)

Thats a shame for some reason they only make the one size! Don't know why! :(

Cheap though!

For that price, it may be worth me looking at 5 new 15" rims.

Might have to measure up first though, as to 90 series ones I have needed a spacer so they wouldn't hit the tie rod end.

If i knock of work early enough tomorrow i have organised to see one in the flesh so to speak. ;D

Went to check out the muds today and decided to buy four! ;D

Got them for $140 each not $135. The shop is called Bundoora Tyre Centre! Its on settlement rd Bundoora/Thomastown in Vic.

Great tread pattern but the only worry would be the side walls. They were still only as thick as an all terrain say a BFG.

Lugs were supprisingly deep and the channels between the outer lugs was pretty wide for a plain muddy!
The photo i posted doesn't do it justice!

Seems like a pretty good tyre for the price.

Cant wait to test em out this weekend! ;)

20-01-2004, 05:51 PM
$140 for 31x10.5x15?? thats less than half the price of the BFG tyres

MUDRIG
20-01-2004, 05:55 PM
Yep bloody good eh! ;D

Well not half considering you can get 31' BFG Muds from ARB for $230-$220!

Check em out for yourself i say! ;)

I was quoted $159 for 31x10.5x15 extreme treckers

Simex seem to be a good value for money tyre.

I like that price & I reckon a set of Extreme Treks would look might fine on my skinny rims ;D

What do you run on the road BT. Not the trecks if you get em eh! ;)

baby_troupe

At the moment I run Bridgestone AT Dueller 693s on road, but if I get some extreme treks, I reckon my BFG Muds will become my road tyres.

MUDRIG
21-01-2004, 10:46 PM
That would be awesome to have trecks for off roading. Cant even imagine how good they would be in the mud! :o Wonder how long ya cv's will hold up thou! ;)

baby_troupe
21-01-2004, 10:49 PM
CVs should be OK.
They will break regardless of the tyre, with sudden changes to load etc.
I reckon I could break them with HTs if I tried hard enough, but I would prefer not to.

MUDRIG
21-01-2004, 10:55 PM
True no need to try and break stuff! The treks would be great looking also on ya rig. ;D ;D If ya decide to buy some post up a few pics with em on. Also with em in action! ;)

Will do.
At current wear rate on the ATs though, it will be about 6 months before I decide what I am buying.

I'm running a set of simex MTs on my rangy and I swear by them. They are unbelievable in mud and even on sand I don't have a problem. Although I don't do alot of road work with the old girl for the price I'd rather buy 2 simex to 1 Cooper AT.

After reading the price og the mongrels in the current mag, why would you even think about buying a remanufactured tyre, when this new one is almost 1/2 the price.

Because they are 2" taller and 2" wider

That size normally costs around $300

Took the new simex muds for a run up in the Vic High Country behind Mt Buller, Mt Stirling and the Buckland Valley on the weekend. Shame there wasn't much mud to be found though. :( They felt pretty awesome over some of the rocky sections eg. buckland spur while they powered me through some river crossings eg. King River. Overall pretty happy so far but I cant wait to get em up to Vic Range track in Toolangi for a bit of a mud work out! ;)

Hey MUDRIG, what was the on road noise like???

98lux
28-01-2004, 04:26 PM
I have been running these for about 2 weeks now and not one complaint even road noise is very low.

Went out to a 4wd park on oz day and it was very very muddie (if any body nows how much rain we have had up here around Tweed Heads you would know how wet it is)

The Pajero that i was with had problems with traction where we got straight through and we recovered him a few times. My vote is for Simex price, grip, sound all good
and they look tuff ;D ;D

Hey MUDRIG, what was the on road noise like???

Yeah fairly noisy at the start like all new tyres but seem to be not to bad now. For the same performance offroad i would have tyres twice as noisy! So far so good! ;D

CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP!

Soooo Bloody Cheap! ;)

In regards to wear and tear I've spent the last 2 months with my arm in a cast after severing the tendons and then to top it off when the cast came off the rangie droped the tappets on the right bank. So lately the things been sitting in the shed but the last 10 months that I've been running them on the road and dirt wear has been fairly minimal for a junky tyre. They're still going strong and still tuff as hell.

Do these tyre's come out in 16'inch

baby_troupe

I would be interested to find the prices for 16" for the future myself.
Might save me from having to buy some 15" rims.

theyv'e probably bought them out as a price point tyre in a very common size with descent quality. if they made the full complement of sizes they would obviously take sales away from their bigger more agressive tyres. which i can't see them doing. which is a shame as not everyone can afford $1500 plus for a bigger set of super aggressive tyres as spares for weekends.

DIRTY
03-02-2004, 02:10 PM
Dunno, they could make them in larger sizes as they have a fair few varieties. Dont think that these would detract from the sales of extreme or jungle trekkers.

Check those prices again as the simex tyres have come down a bit lately.

MUDRIG
03-02-2004, 05:13 PM
Doubt they would detract sales because its a completely different standard of tyre. Its only a basic muddy that looks a bit more agressive! It's definately no jungle or extreme trekker! ;)

MMMMM trekkers!

Go the simex, we are running 35" Simex Centerpedes and they are the best, we are currently shopping around for the new 36" Centerpedes. Heaps of our friends are running Simex MT and they are a good tyre if you are doing mild 4WDing as we do hardcore stuff, rock hopping and competitions, and ours work very well, they are better than BF and Coopers and cheaper

GO FOR IT

MUDRIG

06-02-2004, 10:53 PM
GQPatrol,

How are they better than BFG's & Coopers?

More grip in a) MUD
b) Rock
c) Gravell roads
d) Farm paddocks
e) ........................?

Or is it better wear?

Or is it better on road performance in the dry?

Or is it better on road performanse in the wet?

OR IS IT REALLY THAT THEY ARE CHEAP?

Or if you are really talking about competition tyres, shouldn't you be comparing with Swampers & M/T's?

I spoke to the Simex dealer in Toowoomba yesterday and he quoted me $179 ea F & B. He also said that larger sizes are in the pipeline but he had no dates for availability yet.

I'll print this page out and take it into him and see what he says to the price then. I'm going to hang out as long as poss. hopefully for some 33". knowing my luck I'll buy 31" and a week later the 33" will be released.

this has nothing to do with the MT's but does any one have the extreme trekkers with the 3 lugs in the middle? if so do they get cloged full of mud easily?
