g'day all,
me and the finance company share a 99 GU ute with factory turbo 4.2.
I try and do a big trip once a year [last year it was a double crossing of the simpson and in june i'm heading for the cape again ;D ] so the mods i do have to be able to work for both touring and a bit of competition for the rest of the year.
Just finished modifying the nissan bar to accept the high mount winch which has improved my approach angle compared to the old modified TJM bar.
I've lifted, shortened and moved the tray forward for better clearance.
I also have a modified ARB GQ rear bar to give me a high towbar and protect the 145L long range tank [which has been lifted 2" ]
Changed the diff ratio's to 4.625"s but they are still open front and LSD rear.
Recently fitted marks crawler gears....awesome for the hard stuff ;D
Tyres at the moment are 35 centipedes on JT beadlocks for most of the year and an old set of 35 BFG MT's for touring.
The thing that makes the truck competitive is the suspension, it's WIZARD with 7" springs, adjustable panhard rods, adj top trailing arms, adj lower trailing arms and radius arm drop brackets.
Dampers are rancho 9014's front and 9012's rear with the in cab controller.
had this set up on my GQ as well so its about 4 years old and has done a couple of trips up the cape, a trip across the simpson and a trip up through the gulf country as well as the comps and weekend tracks.
Still got to get a 3" exhaust and difflocks and 38's and......and.....and................... ::)
once the bug bites its never ending, wish i could afford a comp truck and a touring truck but this one will have to do for now.
