I Drive a 1999 Hummer H1
It is equiped with 3 diesel tanks (330 km) dual snorkles, winch, air lockers, 4 inch lift, 35 inch BF GOODRICH MUDDIES, waterproof stero system, Cb radio, 8 light force soptties , bullbar. Thats wot i drive everyday. I go 4x4ing every chance i have

When u are driving and u come to a deep thick mud track put it in low 1st or 2nd to be best and when your are driving and u start to slow down start turning your wheels from left to right and hope that the tyers will bit in to the side of the ruts and slowly pull u along

Happy 4x4ing

low second and even rev's, if it starts to bog down, push the foot down more to clear the treads and side to side action. if it looks like its going to go down to china. stop and snatch out ;D

And if you have them, engage both lockers before you drive in ;)

I've always had mixed opinions on Hummers :-\. They seem too big/wide for most of the tracks (well around Melbourne anyway ::)). You wouldn't find many ruts to sit in I reckon as they have such a wide wheelbase so you'd only have one wheel in a rut I would think.
What gear you pick would depend on a few things like the departure angle, how long it is, what the base is like, etc.... Generally second low & keep a steady pace going :).

What city are you in? I'm sure there'd be a few people keen to take you out for a day 4x4ing & see what the Hummer can do ;D. I'm from Melbourne & I'd be happy to take you out for a day if you're out this way ;).

P.S. I agree with Mick. If I can go around bogholes, I will!

When you work on other peoples cars 5 days a week the last thing you want to do is spend all weekend fixing you own. :P

I don't see the point in blowing diff and axle seals just so I can say I went through that big hole. I'm over all that.

Thats what I used to do when I had an old G60 patrol and didn't really care about my 4wd. :D Now I care sort of. :-\

Might be boring for you but I agree with Mick and in most cases give it a big miss. One, it saves the possible damage Mick mentioned and two I don't have a humungous clean up job when I get home. Give me rocks anytime ;D

There is always a track around it up here. ;) If I have to go though it I will but i'm not going to stuff my 4wd to keep a couple of greenies happy unless they want to just in the hole and be used as land fill than I will happily drive though the mud hole. ;D

Im with you Mick, If there is no other way around a boghole then I will pick the safest and most boring way through, Id rather spend half a day filling it in than half a day cleaning the mud from under the truck...

But Sand!!! thats fun, don't mind getting stuck in that as long as I'm not below the high tide mark.

If there is no alternative track we do drive through it but as Mick says most of the stuff we do up here there is always a sidetrack

BTW Cranky Not everyone has a 7" springlift 2" bodylift and 38.5 creepys on their truck :P You'd be lucky to even make contact with any mud with that setup wouldn't ya ;)
