Can anyone tell me which tire would be best. 35 inch BF Goodrich Mud terrains or 35 inch Simex centerpede* I am looking at driving Cape York and wondering wether road noise and road resistance would be a prob with the Simex Centerpede's* or BFG Muddies.
Thanks

The BFG would be better on road than the Simex.
The Simex would better in serious mud, but would wear very quickly on the blacktop.

Personally I would go for the BFG as they are better as an allrounder. ;D

It all depends what are you using your car for.
Do you really need MT tyre?
Cape york can be safely done with all terains too, and they would have to be better on road than MT.

I am not to concerned about road noise. I think i could probably put up with the BFG Muddies on the bitumen aslong as i have something tough to back me up on the rough stuff;D

I use the MTR as a road tyre, much more puncture resistant than the BF on rocky stuff, and doesnt tread block chip as easily I have found.

It's not only road noise that you get with muddies( i never noticed any more noise than with AT) but stopping distance and corner handling especialy on wet betumen

Try the MTR, they have the road tyre shoulder to aid road handling, and the silica content of the tyre, which aids the non chipping tread really helps wet weather performance as well.

Yeah I'd go MT/R's....I wouldn't be rushing to run Simex to the cape....

I'm confused.
MTR-Is that BF mud terrain KO?

or you talking of something else

I think there is a bit of confusion as the BFG Mud Terrain Radial is being called an MTR & getting confused with the Good Year Wrangler MTR (Maximum Traction Radial) which until this post has not really been mentioned in this thread.

Unless I have it confused as well......

Go with the Goodyear MTR.

Simex will most painfull on that trip.

Sorry for any confusion, I was recommending:
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's
NOT BFG Mud-Terrain T/AŽ KM

Would not run BF MT...... sidewalls like toilet paper....2 ply.

The GY Wrangler MTR has a tougher sidewall.

Ummm Darren BFG MT has 3 ply sidewalls ;)
But remember it's not just how many plies there are but also how thick, the construction, the material, etc....

The MT/R is I believe on a 3ply sidewall - but they are a very thick sidewall and are regarded as being extremely puncture resistant......

BFG count the nylon winding as a ply, to make 3 ply.... so technically, yes its a 3 ply, compared to others in the market...... toilet tissue [2 ply]

I run the goodyear MTR's on my disco and have only noticed a small increase in road noise. Handeling has gone way up but, cornering is better and just the grip on the road feels safer.
Off road they have only been stopped when I buried them in clay up to the door seals.

A friend of mine has done approx 60thousand KLM on a set of Goodyear MTRs on a 4.5ton Rangerover(Isuzu4BD1 Turbo deisel) and they are still prob only 2thirds worn. It has done a fair bit of offroad work too.

These would have to be the best allround tyre currently on the market.

I have a friend who has goodyear MTR 's and he isn't very impressed with them, the sidewall chipping that you guys were talking about earlier is quite excessive on his especially the fronts, they have only done 35000klm's with occasional 4wd use, the tread blocks are starting to lift at the base of each block. Do you think this could be classed as a warranty claim?

also i have a set of cooper sure traks which have a very mild case on two of the four tyres, which could be a common fault with them because I also know another guy whose coopers st's have done the same thing, I also have a set of BF muddies on my cruiser which are about 2.5years old and

I can't complain at all about them, they have only had one puncture, which was a nail I picked up on a job site and it went through the center part of the tread between to blocks. I do a fair bit of 4wding and give them a pretty hard time with no probs.

While pickin up my MTRs there was a set of NEW 35 BFG KMs (this was weeks ago), and I pushed on the sidewall, and it was as Darren says like dunny paper... Almost felt like Playdoe (sorry darren).. Spongey.... I was actually suprised, as my BFG MT's (pre KM) that came off were VERY much solid compared to the KM..

The bloke in the tire shop gave me the 'P' off sign while he got the $$ out of the bloke for the BFG's, after that he didnt care what I did to em.
