Hi all
We are going to travel to perth in April and would like to get some ideas for places of interest west of the SA border. Nothing extreme as we are the only vehicle and will have a camper in tow. The vehicle in use is our '84 BJ42 near to the last of them. Looking forward to your ideas

Flinders ranges are good. my parents were down there a few years ago and enjoyed the area.there is a video on the flinders ranges and surrounding areas that 4wd monthly put together or get onto the back issues that had the stories in it. other than that i can't help as i've never been there myself.

G'day Mal
Sounds as though you might be coming across the Nullabor via the Eyre Hwy??? Possibilities............
1. At Caiguna, head south towards the cliffs in the Great Aust Bight which you will reach near Toolinna Cove. Then follow the old overland telegraph line access track west until it descends down the Wylie Scarp on to the beach in Israelite Bay. There are no real tough spots on the track although it does wind through some pretty thick scrub at times. The track down the Wylie Scarp is steep and sandy but you won't have any problems going downhill. At the bottom you drive through a dune complex to get to the beach but with your tyres let down on vehicle and camper you should be OK. You hit the beach about 7 kms west of where the cliffs finish and the beach begins. You can then drive about 80 kms on the beach west to what used to be the Israelite Bay telegraph station (ruins and cemetry). The beach is hard packed fine white sand - no problems at all in 2wd but beware of seaweed patches hiding deep holes. From Israelite follow the track west towards Esperance - there are many terrific beaches/headlands to see along the way and the beach driving is great - depends on how much time you've got. Plenty of great camping spots, including a caravan park at Thomas River. Watch out for snakes, especially if you've got kids. From Esperance to Perth via either the Goldfields to the north or Ravensthorpe to the west.
2. Or, alternatively. head south from Balladonia past Mt Ragged to Cape Arid (track OK for 4WD and camper) and pick up the coastal track previously mentioned and then follow it to Esperance visiting as many of the beaches as you've got time to do.
3. Or, alternatively, head south from Kalgoorlie to Esperance and have a look at all the beaches east and west of the town.
There are many top spots right round the south and south-west coast - if you want more details, let me know

Many thanks, for your ideas. We hope to have a great time exploring, too far to go without seeing as much as time allows
