When i pulled the rear seats out and ripped up the vinyl froor, i was shocked to see what the dodgy buggers that fitted the extra seats had done! :o

In the process of cutting the rust out completely and welding a new plate in. Not stuffin around with rust.
Shes got that orange wax shit inside the walls and pillars, god that stuffs messy! Anyone know where to get water bladders for in the walls of a troopy?
This is gonna have the lot in it. Planning to take the missus round this great country of ours in early 07 for a couple of years, so ive gotta get it right in one year.
Keep an eye out for more updates. ;D

Heres the floor all buffed back and the front half painted with cold galvit
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/luxxy28/3e1469c5.jpg
what a bugger of a job that was with a buffing wheel attached to an angle grinder. Filthy and very hot.
I took to the large rust infected areas with the cut-off wheel and treated the surroundind steel before welding in a new plate.

pritty tidy if i do say so myself. 8)
I,ve decided that instead of fitting water bladers into the wall cavity id get a plastic tank made up to fit between the rear fuel tank and the towbar since that space would otherwise be wasted. Any sugestions for this truck are very welcome. ;D

Can I suggest maybe a aluminium water tank, as it might be a bit more durable compared to plastic.

Heard something about manufacturers not making ally water tanks anymore cause it does somthing to the water and corrodes on the inside. is this true?
Ally isn't really taint free and of course there is the concerns that it causes Alzheimers.
Food grade stainless is the material of choice. I have never had a problem with water taint out of plastic caravan water tanks....I have with bladders though.

Hey all, sorry i havnt updated lately. ive been on holidays in fiji and broke my foot before that. Im back in full swing and have done some more stuff like replaced all the spring bushes with nolothane items and finished the floor to the point of fitting the electronic rust protection.
Ive gone with ERPS again as i was realy impressed with the kit i put on the old lux. $583 for the C10 beach pack!
well worth it though.
Ill post some more pics tonight when i get off work. :P

I got some racing seats off ebay that i will be fitting soon aswell. if anyone has fitted seats to there truck and had to get the mounts certified in QLD could they let me know what the inspectors want to see.
Hay it's coming along nicly. If you do go for a water bladder/plastic tank just make sure that it has an inside lining. It makes the water taste like water and not plastic bottle.

She looks good! keep it up.
That rust rid (waxy shit) is great stuff I swear by it. My folks own a Toyota dealership on the south coast of NSW and as a young lad it was my job to do the underside of cars with that stuff (pick on the young bloke), but i agree it is horrible shit to work with, it stinks, gets in your hair, all over your hands when your trying to work on it and wont come out of your clothes unless you use a solvent which stuffs em anyway. But god it keeps the rust away!!!! We have an old 40 series, that since 1983 spent 80% of its life putting boats in and out of the water and recovering stuck vehicles off beaches etc etc etc this thing breathes salt! but she have never rusted! Looks like shit covered (and i mean covered) with rust rid or tecktyle (dunno if thats how its spelt), but hasnt rusted.
By the looks of that truck and the amount of cold gal in there neither will yours!
Well done!
G'day Luxxy, I own a troopy as well and my thoughts on your water tank would be to fit a cargo barrier and anchor a plastic tank on its edge to the barrier, run the fittings out through the passengers side. Having it inside means you can access it anytime and also know how much is left in the tank at all times.
Good luck with the project and enjoy your trip around Aust.

Got the water tank issue sused. TJM (i know thats a dirty word) has a range of plastic tanks, and one of them fits perfectly on the passenger side under the floor where that huge friggn muffler currently resides. its roughly 80L plus plumbing capacity.
That`ll do me. 8)

this is all you can see from the top and is the pin for the swing arm.

I used the better of the old suspention bushes for the pivot and an old truck guard pole fitted the bushes perfectly.
Thanks to scania for the steel. hehe ;D
ill chuck some pics of the finished product on when im testing it.
Looking good. Keep the pics and descriptions coming, I need to fit a dual or single to mine as well. ;)

It freed up ok but theres some pitting an d scale on the clock springs. Have to see how it cleans up.
Anyone got a remote lead for a 9000lb or 10000lb 5 pin

Wow, you have one hell of a clean and replace job ahead of you. For around the same money you could have had a brand new winch from Repco that many here have reported work really well. Wouldn't that have been better?
luxxy28
03-04-2006, 08:16 PM
;DIt cleaned up sweet! Nothing needs replacing at all.
Ill post the pics when i get some time and fix the links for the rest of the pics that aren`t showing anymore.
If your electric motor was bad how bad is the gearbox ?
luxxy28
07-04-2006, 02:08 PM
The gearbox had asmall amount of crusty stuff ontop of the grease which washed of in the parts cleaner.
What sort of grease should i use to repack it? Moly or marine?
dhula
10-04-2006, 11:05 PM
I put moly in mine when I repacked it, after trying hi temp, hi pressure stuff.
here's another thread on it. Not many answers but a few ideas.

Looking good mate, i'd suggest a stainless water tank or two, custom made to the space available but if you go by the article in 4WDM it could be quite costly, depending on your budget.
I'm actually in the process of making some stainless water tanks for behind the seat in my 55, i just pay for the materials that i use and do it after work.
Nice choice of vehicle too, when i 8yo in '94 we went around oz for 6 months in a troopy, couldn't imagine anything to have met the challenge quite as well as one of those.
Have fun doing it up, looking forward to seeing it ready for the big trip.
Cheers, Daniel.

Ive got the seats in the cab and the dual battery trays nearly finished at work so ive got lots of pic posting to do when i get the chance ;)
Im haven a ball doin this job, cant think of many things i like doing more than designing somthing to do a job and then having it take shape ( and work!!) 8)

mate im just wondering what the go is with the rets of the swing arm??? so you'll have the tyre carrier sit on the pin on a bush but how will the swing arm be connected to the pin? and more so, secured to the pin? so as you cant just walk along and lift the whole lot off? im presuming you will be using a latch system to lock the carrier into place, im really interested in this design, i really like the idea, sure is a cheap way out of a dual rear wheel carrier ;D if you have more pics/info on this would you be able to post it up? thanks heaps ;)

Fitted a "bushranger" air compressor yesturday and a tank today. I chucked it in the wall cause that space would otherwise be wasted. Ive run 8mm nylex air pipe to the tank and 12mm nylex to a manifold at the front and rear.
