Hi all
I've heard there are some sweet muddy tracks in the otways :D, been there, not on any cool tracks tho, wasn't driving either :(
hopefully the tracks haven't been closed :-\
are there many/any good camping spots in the forest that are accessed by kinda challenging but tracks, for a newby?
are you allowed to camp in the otways?
nice area down there, i've only stayed in the caravan park in marengo with mum & dad & bro, then drove places,
now just gotta get my own 4b and go where i wanna go hehehe ;D ;D
cheers

Gday Bush Boy,
We have done a few weekends down there with the guys and stay at a guys farm. He has set up a camping area down the back of the farm and you can go up to the dairy, he does heaps of stuff. His name is allan and you can get hold of him by lookin on maps of the area if he is still listed or else ring 12451 and ask for accomodation in the otways, called otway paradise or something.
give it a go.

BushBoy, I reckon your'e referring to the Otways Oasis. I went there last easter with my 4wd club.

a great isolated camping spot and allan will give out information on avalable tracks.
Gelibrand van park is good too, across from the pub ;)
Beech forest pub has a good feed as well.
Dando's is a good newbies camping spot, in from Gelibrand, and good newbie tracks when dry are Noonday, No 1 spur, West Barwon track, Sayers track, Asplins track, Newcombe spur track, Goat track, Bridge track, the 45's can be a good drive when dry for a standard car too, but harder when wet.
You can camp at the bottom of Hopetoun falls, but the river crossing is challenging at the moment, you can camp on oregan track on the river, Aire Valley crossing is good, Glenaire on the river by the surf beach is really good, Turtons track is worth a drive, camping at Stevonsons falls as well.
stay away from Noonday, Newcombe spur, if wet, and stay away from Ossie track and the part of Oregan after the camp area unless you have 35" + mud tyres and a winch and all rec gear if wet, the tyres, lockers and winch if dry.

Yeah otway oasis, i was kinda close. We got the key off al and went up to the pool and had showers and the whole pool to ourselves and everything. He also has (just perfect for you bush boy), he has all the maps of the area, reccomends what tracks you would be suited to etc. Really great place to stay. We took the dogs and yeah great place.
but sheddie is right about a few of those tracks!! especially newcombe i think it was, but then that is another story!! ;D
