iv been doing some thinking, i take it we will be camping at the event? if so it will be a be a challenge to take camping gear on a bus or train.

PJ.zook
21-12-2005, 06:31 PM
Another idea, dunno if everyone will want to, but we could fly there and back, a return flight leaving friday morning and returning monday middayish with Virgin Blue is $71 each.

21-12-2005, 07:20 PM
done richard!

yes we're camping, if we go train/bus (not our own hire bus) i'll hafta look into how much gear we can take

and too expencive for me pj, but if everyone wants to go there own way and meet up there that could work out as well.

21-12-2005, 08:39 PM
Hey I have a friend in Sydney (Trent) who has made the following recommendations;

Best bet for the Mexicans

Catch train from Melbourne to Syd approx off peak price $65

Change at central to broadmeadow Newcastle $12 dollars

Send someone up to thrifty charlestown to pick up bus (priced 12 seater for 4 days at $563 all inclusive except petrol may have to also hire trailer for all of camping gear)

Alternatively there are a couple of pubs in Singleton to stay but have been advised by a local mate who goes every year to book now.

Drive to Milbodale approx 1.5 hr from Newcastle

Let me know what we all think.

And Tom I reckon we should all go together cause this will probably work out cheaper for everyone.

Chester
21-12-2005, 08:45 PM
Guys quick hello im Humpys Sydney friend just got on the forum

Did some research an alternative for you south of the border is as follows

Melb to Syd on the train approx $65
Syd to Broadmeadow (Newcastle) $12

Hire bus from Thrisfty Charlstown $520 all included except petrol

Trailer hire through Thrifty $120

Another alternative is there are a couple of pubs in singleton about 20 mins from the site but a mate who goes every year says book now

Hope this helps and hello to all ;)

Chester
21-12-2005, 08:48 PM
Always 1 step ahead lisa

21-12-2005, 08:49 PM
thanks heaps trent is the 65 bucks for the train one way or return?

Grimsey
21-12-2005, 08:49 PM
looking at that amount lisa depending on how many people go it might end up being easyer and cheaper to drive a couple of cars up.

Chester
21-12-2005, 08:53 PM
Train ticket price is one way economy off peak you will be Leaving Melb 11:30pm Thurs night

21-12-2005, 08:58 PM
i did a quick add up and per person up and back its going to be about 200+

21-12-2005, 09:01 PM
yep at this stage i recon we drive a couple of cars up. DB (4runner2.8) did a rough calulationg and he recons about 80 - 100 bucks return if we get 4 ppl in a car. thats the go i recon.

Chester
09-01-2006, 05:10 PM
Guys

Just got some info from a mate of mine who goes up there (thanks Dave)

1 If you pre pay your tickets cheaper and avoids line ups at the door

2 As the event is all on flat ground it is best to pick what you want to see and get there early for a good spot and stick to it or you will be looking at the back of peoples heads

Humpy
09-01-2006, 06:23 PM
Pre paid does make it cheaper, but didnt make it any faster at the gate, last year it took about 1.5 hours >:(

Getting there early will mean you get a good campsite, and any space you leave will be filled by others later. The campsite gets pretty crowded.

For spectating, its usually about 3 rows deep but theres plenty of rocks to stand on, so getting a good view isnt too difficult. They also have a few courses running at once so you can wander around between them

09-01-2006, 06:36 PM
according to the website www.tufftruck.com.au (http://www.tufftruck.com.au) u save about 10 bucks by pre purchasing tickets

wooders
09-01-2006, 08:44 PM

Well if were staying somewhere overnight halfway up, then im willing to take the Statesman, i get fatigued on all day roadtrips driving the whole time as im sure everyone does. I wouldnt have a problem with Scott, Tom, Lisa, Steve, Allan, etc... driving it anyway if it came to that.

24-01-2006, 09:10 PM
Ah PJ, the only problem I see with that is if you let the boys at it the fuel economy will be truly crap :o :P

Nah you see im rigging up a sophisticated mechatronic throttle manipulated high voltage sensitising nerve spike inducing device. It works by when the accelerator reaches a specific position, approximately halfway open, i jab them in the ribs with a cattle prod.

i contacted them about a group buy. it will save us $2 i think if we get more than 10 ppl buying at once, i recon its prob not worth the hassle, everyone may as well get tix them selves. by the way theres a 10 buck saving (form about $50 to $40) by pre-booking.

also everyone im gonna start getting the ball rolling (like whos coming definantly and what cars we can take) after high country trip (not this weekend but next)

I may be in the same boat as you scott. I've got tafe on the friday...and also the monday. I was thinking about somehow pulling a sicky on the friday (not to sure how i'd do it..coz i think they want med certificates if ur unwell) but i could have an assessment that day who knows.
Damn tuff truck being in NSW...why can't it be here.

What sorta time do people think we'd leave on the sunday?...Considering the monday isn't a public holiday and people will have to work.
Also what are people thinking of doing about food? Anyone thinking of doing the meal packages? Which are $125 including weekend entry pass as well.

Those who don't let us know your intentions...we'll prob just assume that you're not coming.

RACV website has given me driving directions from ringwood to putty rd (which tuff truck is off). Estimated travel time is 11hrs 24mins and total distance is estimated as 1047km 63m

Leave my house in tassie around 12 on wed 29th

Giiit on the Spirt of tassie for 7 (29th)

Arrive in Melb at 7 that morning (30th)

Pic Lou (lil Oscar) up from tafe at 5:30, then drive to a set location where we will all meet. (30th)

Start the drive to tuff truck for the 31st.

We will have disco dav, with myself, dad and lou in it. We might be able to have another person....seeing on how much gear we have. We will have some room for chit, but not a whole heap. Thursday is fine for us to leave as well, just depending on when lou finish's.

Also, each car is responsible for there own fooz, and drinks. Whether you buy here in melb (they will check your fridge on the fairy) or in nsw is up to each car. Are we going to stop over night? Or are we just going to go for it? I think were already ready to roll with disco dav up to scratch, and were doing the commenwhore this weekend as it needs some work done to the clutch :P Also needs new tyres but alex should have that cover easy. Poor turn out from melb isnt it....hows the skirt coming along ned?

well if we're driving through the night (with wouldn't be bad) im happy to do a bit of driving for our car (even though ive never driven with a trailer, but there's only one way to learn!) as long as pj and browny recon we're up to it though.

Three drivers, well be fine, just swap every 2 hours, and at least one passenger must be awake. Driver should preferrably be awake too.

lol pj

but on second thought we can possably leave in the morning, and drive all day and get a good night sleep. or if we cant/dont want to do that then yeah, i recon we can drive through the night. worst case senario we make up out minds that we're too tired and we pull over for the night. its all good.

I've said it before...brenno pay attention coz i'm answering your question. It takes 11hrs 24 mins to get there according to RACV's directions. That's non stop driving, obviously we're gonna have some stops along the way especially if ppl are drinking piss, so prob 12.5-13 hrs.

I'm not against the driving thru the night idea...I won't be driving, i'll be sleeping or bopping away to tunes. Tom when you say we could possibly leave in the morning. Are you meaning thurs morning or fri morning?? Gates open at 10am on the friday.

Whats this about talk of a trailer? We taking a trailer now are we? Just to add on to what jim said about each car being responsible for their own food and drinks. There is no drinking water on site. I'm not sure if there is water for washing up etc, so also need to take own water. If you want to wash urselves then i suggest a) you take extra water b)a bucket and a wash cloth to wash urself with orrrr a bush shower otherwise a can of deo ;D.

Is this meet up only for southerners, or will you let us QLD'ers get involved as well.
We got four of us, that are coming down from Central QLD.
K's to travel is 1250, according to Whereis.com, and it reckons there is only 13 hours and 50 minutes of travel. I'm sure it took us longer last year, but we'll soon find out.
We got two blokes with prepaid tickets, I'm one, and two without. We're leaving here on Thursday morning, planning on arriving at the gates any time between midnight and 2.00am. We'll be rolling the swags out beside the car to catch some Z's.
Would be good to catch up to some others while there.
Is there a list of people who are going, at the top of page 4 there is a list, but I would have thought that there would be more than just that.

Cheers
Corry

WOOOHOOOO 4DAY WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

03-04-2006, 08:22 PM
just got home from tuff truck! had an awsome weekend!! i could write about 6 pages on highlights but a f ew for me were:

red bitch breaking the rear pinion (mog diffs) and control arm on friday night but getting it all fixed and kept competing with some great entertaing drives, that bloke was fun to watch!

matt pisani on the frame twister on saturday standing on his bull bar! i dunno how he didnt flip over fowards

the look on dobbins face when he got over that crazy bonus line at the end of frame twister

was dissapointing to see some of the big dollar trucks (eg that big black gu) with all the gear not do so well, but was awsome to see some of the smallers cars (eg luxes with only 37" tyres compared to 49s!) out drive them. there are some great driver/navi combos that really know their cars and know how to drive!

my favorite car was the 'green slinky'! awsome looking green lux, heres a pic:

pisani's air bag vitara, note the accessories on the bonnet :P

this is the most stable car ive ever seen! (even though he had a big roll over on rocky horror!) the side angle he got on on mini waiba was nuts!

one of the luxes climbing a rock:

the same car, over the big tyres on frame twister:

red bull having a go at the waiba ledge:

the mighty mad cow! a great team to watch.

my vote for 'best paint job'. Athols M & M built zook (used to be orange/blue)

pete on his way up the rocky horror hill climb

this lux had a very interesting front suspenion setup, im keen to see pic of it on the ramp. would be worth starting a whole new thread on it i recon! would take too much explaining!

Well yep was definately a great trip, i enjoyed myself sitting around on the various rock escarpments watching all the trucks trying to get over seemingly impossible objects. The last rollover of the orange zook was the most impressive, he flipped over once and rolled on his side, was suprised he didnt roll all the way down the hill.
The driver was yelling at the refs and his navvy to push him over so he could continue the drive, but of course for safety reasons they wouldnt allow it. I couldnt help think that its always the last track you do the damage (he was the last truck to run when he flipped).
I was very impressed with the attitude of the driver, whatever happened he always had a grin on his face and was having a bloody good time.
The engineering on that thing impressed me too, nothing extreme like hydraulics or rear steer, just a really solid build. At one stage he was hanging in the air being recovered from Mudrats Revenge being dangled and rattled all over the place (you could hear him laughing over the crowd noise), the cage didnt move, not that it should, but...
Anyways, as Tom said, too much to mention.
Almost had some trouble getting home, we wanted to leave straight after the events finished on sunday, but the stato put a holt to those plans, i got in ready to drive, put my foot on the brake and it went straight to the floor.
After looking all over teh lines of the car, i put it down to a weeping flexible hose and not opening the resovoir properly before leaving to check the levels properly.
Anyway, after asking everyone we could find for some fluid, it took intervention by Simon from 4wdtv to find someone. After bleeding etc it came good.

03-04-2006, 09:19 PM
yep huge thanks to mick and roger (mog rover crew) for the break fluid!
