My 4.2 turbo diesel is now out of warranty so I want to start saving dollars by servicing it (dropping the oil, filters, diff oils etc) my self. There are so many different brands & specs of oils etc recommended I find it a little confusing.
Wondering what you guys recommend as best for my truck.
Thanks in anticipation

Try this site, if Mobil is OK for you

http://www.mobil.com.au/

and menu down to "lubricants and specialities" and then "lubrication recommendations". Put in your vehicle specs and there it is!

hi, i use castrol rx super in my patrol and find it gives better oil pressure and reduces oil burning (my vehicle has high kms on it).

Castrol GTD works well for most of us.

Oils are like everything, you only get what you pay for.....

Stating the obvious but it will run better with a deisel oriented oil :)

Diesel orientated oil has a higher detergent quality, and more of an ability to hold particles suspended, as soot contaminates diesel engines more than petrol engines contaminat oil.

Valvoline Special Diesel isn't bad and reasonable price tool

Hey Fot
I use Shell Rimula X 15w/40 in my 4.2TD GU IV and Donaldson oil filters. As I have found the geniune filters have had problems with the anti drain back valve.
