Where bouts in Qld you from? Come out to Cruiser Park this week end to give it a run

if you are Qld forget about the SPOA can't be legally done. Also why bother you can run 34" tyres without going to SPOA. i have a 2" BL, 2" lifted springs, rears all round, 1" extended shackles and a liberal use of the grinder and I have 34" Swampers on mine.

Definetly get the diff breathers, probably wouldn't blow too much money on a quality stereo. Why do you want dual batteries as you are adding a fair bit of weight for no benefit. If you want a better battery go an Oddysey which are great little batteries with lots of oomph.

Most importantly have fun

Thats a bugger about the SOA :P but I might make some extended shackels if they are legal and I want the extra battery for the fridge for when I go camping, to hold the cold COKE. ;) ;)

I'm only on my learners so I can't get out to landcruiser but when I get my P plates in January there will be no stopping me. ;D ;D

G'day

Well guys, I fitted the bullbar last weekend 8) but don't have any pic's loaded yet :'( but they won't be far off 8) . I won't be doing much for the next 4 weeks as school is nearly finished for the year so I have to work hard for the grades. But as soon as i start holidays, bring on the mods. I will fix up the interior first while I am on my learners, oncde this is finished i should have my P plates and be able to drive myself. I will give it a lift, get bigger rubber and all that sort of stuff then.

Here is a few things I want to get done to the interior while I can these holidays:

1. Over head console to fit UHF and CD player. (Includes storage spaces) ;D
2. Interior panels, include new trim, speaker installation and more storage pockets. ;)
3. Clean up dash area and add coverup plates. 8)
4. Interior Lights on sperate switches. :)
5. Clean out OE carpet and replace with a neater fit. :o
6. Last but not least if I have time will be a type of storage system in the back. It will probably retain 1 seat for transportation perposes. ::)

Any more suggestions would be greast but I am keeping to a budget so nothing to expensive. ???

Take lots of pics when making the overhead console, im planning on making one also and need ideas. Its a softtop so im thinkin from the top of the windscreen to the rear hoop, shove the uhf in it.
What are you planning on making it out of?

I'm thinking of Making it out of 6mm Ply and Auto Carpect to protect it and look good, but that won't bee for a month yet. :P

I took some pictures of the bullbar being taken off and the engine bay but none with the bar on yet, but very soon I will. ;D

G'day

I got some pictures of my bullbar this afternoon. It looks good but I might get a proper steel ARB later on, but this one is a lot better than the original bumper bar ;) it was just a flimsy tin thing ( S'pose it was better than the plastic ones they have on new 4WD's nowdays.)

The front look of the bar on my scary suzuki

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/IMG_1214.jpg

A side on view (not to shabby) ;)

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/IMG_1215.jpg

And the most important part 8)

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/IMG_1216.jpg

It adds a bit of bling to the whole thing. And this is another front shot, I am very pleased with it but won't be doing much, if anything at all until the school year finishes, in about a month. Then I will also have the funds up again. ;D

Well everyone, school is finished for the year so I am back on my project. I have already fixed the interior lights and am now working on speakers and panels.

Does anyone now if the interior of the 90's model seirra fits in the old 87 model, thinking I might redo the dash if money allows, giving me a clean slate and a chance to redo the wireing.

What type of seats best fit a sierra, the ones I have have worn out and move around alot, backwards and fowards :-\ makes for fun when braking down hill.

pretty sure you will find that the extended shackles aren't legal unfortunately. Gotta love Queensland DOT, what a bunch of champions!! Don't quote me on it but its worth checking out before you do it. Not many modified 4b's in queensland are legal, mine isn't. ::)

LIVEx4x4

Thanks for the tip on the extended shackels, I just read the Queensland Modifications guidelines on the link below and found out some interesting stuff.

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinfo.nsf/ReferenceLookup/Modification_Jan05v2.pdf

I installed some speakers today, I had to make a wooden panel to fit in a hole and attach the speakers to the wooden panels.

Here are the holes that need to be covered up.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Seirra019.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Seirra018.jpg

I cut out a cardboard template of the hole.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Seirra016.jpg

I then cut out the panels, drilled to holes and trail fitted them.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/brigadevocal002.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/brigadevocal001.jpg

After that I measured and cut out the holes for the speakers and trail fitted them.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/brigadevocal004.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/brigadevocal003.jpg

I then painted the panels and reattached the speakers.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/brigadevocal006.jpg

Then I fitted them to my to the hole.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/brigadevocal007.jpg

Tomorrow arvo, after work, I will try and cut out some templates for my over head console.

Thanks for the Bullbar polish tip Taziiy, I'll try it soon. ;D

I started on my overhead console this week.

This is what my roof looks like at the moment.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra030.jpg

First I cut out some cardboard templates for the front outline and the roof outline.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra031.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra032.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra033.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra034.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra035.jpg

I then measured up the distances and traced the templates onto some 10mm Ply for more strength then 6mm as it bent to eaisly

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra036.jpg

I then measure my UHF and CD Player and drew up the spaces for them.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/Sierra037.jpg

Next week I will hopefully cut out the board and trail fit them in the car. I also hope to start to extend the wireing up to the roof at the same time. I will cut out some space for some storage pockets in the console on either side.

Andrew ;)

Looking great so far, really interested to see how the overhead console goes. I thought you were going to do a console that goes from the windscreen to the hoop benhind the front seats, like over the area between the front seats. Might see how yours turns out the way youre doing it, might change my mind if it turns out ok.

Hey Guys,

Sorry I haven't been on lately, camera problems and computer problems have led to little progress on the forum but it hasn't stopped me on the zook.

I installed some interior lights (the original ones melted when I put stronger bulbs in) give off a nice crisp light, the either run off the door of off a main switch in the dash.

I also have built the wooden part opf my console and hopefully will get it installed this arvo. I have done all the wireing and installed my CD player and UHF into the console. I will try and get some pictures as soon as I can. All i need now is the UHF arial and CD arial extended to reach to the roof and it will all be good.

I will carpet the console at the begining of next year once I have it finished nicely. I will use grey cheap carpet from a hardware store or something.

I will hopefully have some pics up soon.

Andrew.

Well Everyone, I have finally got my roof console instralled and finished with CD and UHF working perfectly. I Still have to carpet the console but it is fitted and throwing out some good tunes.

I have also been busy installing my cheap ($30 each) spotties on my bullbar. The have been installed in a way that I can install better ones as I drive more and funds permit. They throw out 100w of light.

At the moment I am taking off my rear bumper, lights and number plate bracket and bending them straight. The owner before me had done the wireing for the trailer plug and I am luckey the car hadn't caught alight. Wires left bear, some even earthing out, scary stuff. I also had to install a new number plate light the original ones were shattered.

I am still have camera troubles but I should have some up on the weekend (Fingers Crossed)

Thanks for all the encougement guys, really appreciatted.

Andrew

P.S. I also have a nice sticker in my back window.

Well All, I finally got some photos, first I will show you my roof console.

It still isn't carpeted but when I carpet it the carpet will fill and overlap any gaps in the making of it. I will leave a centimetre of excess carpet around the main frame to give it a neat, close finish

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra001.jpg

I will also fold the carpet into the gaps for the storage spaces and the CD and UHF. This will give the whole thing a professional look.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra002.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra003.jpg

I will cover the inside of the storge system with carpet to stop things from clanging and to protect certain items when they are sitting in there.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra004.jpg

The Console is attached to the roof via some angle aluminium and 4 skrews each bracket.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra006.jpg

LIVEx4x4
30-12-2005, 05:35 PM
Secondly I installed new interior lights, the old lights burnt out.

I got these from supercheap for $24.99 each but they work better then any standard interior lights I know of. They are either turned on buy the driver side door or by a switch mounted in the dash. They can also work be turned off intividally and can also have either 1 or both bulds working.

I have one on the middle support beam and one at the back.

Andrew ;)

LIVEx4x4
30-12-2005, 05:41 PM
Thirdly, I installed some spotties, they are cheapies at the moment but are upgradable.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra012.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra013.jpg

I am happy with the wireing between the bullbar and the grill.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra016.jpg

but I will need to tidy up the wireing under the bonnet. I was luckey and didn't have to drill a hole in the fire wall because I found one.

Andrew

LIVEx4x4
30-12-2005, 05:48 PM
And last but not least I got some seat covers for christmas.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra007.jpg

And here is a picture of my UHF arial.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/livex4x4/SuzukiSierra017.jpg

A 12v outlet has also been installed in the dash.

Soon I will be getting new seats and hopefully refurbish the Interior.

Is it true that the gagues in the 94' model sierras are white and blue and fit straight into the 87' models dash?

Andrew

P.S. Hope I got enough pic's.

Yes that is correct gobble_doc.

I will get some action pictures as soon as I have my license.

I have been working a far bit lately so I have plenty of money to spend on my rig. At the moment though I have been installing new rear panels as the old ones had rotted and were falling apart. I bought some plastic chequered plate and some 3mm ply. I took the panels out, traced them on the ply wood, cut out the ply wood and trail fitted. Once they fitted correctly I put liquid nails on and attached them to the plastic chequered plate and left to dry.

This afternoon I will cut them out and fully fit them. I will also get some pictures of them. Soon I may even start painting the inside, and making more storage compatments up front.

Weel, I haven't got around to the diff breathers or storage yet but I have got some new panels under the dash. It was my B'Day not long ago and I got front floor mats a steering wheel cover from my parents. ;D ;D They add a lot of bling to the beast and the steering wheel cover is so comfortable as it just about doubles the diameter of the steering wheel making iut easier to hold.

I will have some pictures up soon.

Well it's been a long time but I have got some progress. Not much but a liottle.

I have also beeen wondering about makeing a new rear bar as the one at the moment is crap. Any help wiht this would be really apriciated. I was also wondering weather there is a way to change the colour of the dash as it is the old orange and really gets on my nerves.

I will be going for my licence for a second time on Wednesday the 15th, the first time I bummed out by speeding in a 50 zone, so fingers crossed for this time.

I won't be doing much at the moment as I am in 12yr and I is going to be a hard school year for homework. But I will do my best.

Keep at it man it sounds like its really starting to get there.

As for the dash, you can get dashboards reskinned but would propably cost a bit, you could also get them painted, but get advice first, you dont just want to use pressurepack enamel as it never seems to set right on plastic.

Hi Andrew
Not been on much lately so I've just seen your project - The little Zook looks great... I have a '97 Hardtop (mostly stock) and I know you must be having a ball with it. I normally only observe, being a Newbie, but zook projects interest me as I can pickup some ideas I haven't thought of myself... I can post some pics if you like on the couple of things I've done, but I don't want to highjack your project.

I'm quickly posting now re: your comment on carpet for your console ...”DON'T” just use any carpet. I covered my home made storage system with "Boat Carpet" (from any boat dealer). Reasonable price, easy to use, glue down with touch dry bond glue and you can glue & stretch it around corners & edges. Looks great and professional when finished .

(Tip: take console apart and carpet each exposed panel separately, allowing about an extra 20mm over size needed, wrapping it over edges if you want – but allow for carpet thickness if you do. Once it has stuck down firmly you can trim off the extra with a Stanley knife)
