Just a lil hint for all, though it should be commonsense I spose.........
Went into a servo, pulled up at the LPG pump which was quite close to the diesel pump, filled up tojo, went in and paid, drove off and went to stop at the entrance to the highway, and yep, foot slipped straight off the brake and onto the throttle, thank god there was an empty lane, the missus was white.
I had walked through a very tiny bit of diesel, which was hardly noticeable, and boy it played havoc with my rubber soles on my boots, as the driveway was a lil wet from someone washing their windscreen.
I always scuff my boots now in the dirt before I get in. :'(
Never heard that one before :o Lucky 8)

iv had that happen, but it was in a car that had been detailed, and they had put tyre shine on the peddels to make them look bling but it all so made them very slippery.

YEP SEEN THAT HAPPEN WHEN A MATE PUT ARMORALL ON THE PEDALS AND THE STEERING WHEEL, AND NO POWER STEER, IF IT WASNT SO SERIOUS, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FUNNY, AS HE BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY TRYING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND HIS HANDS JUST SLIPPED OFF, AND THEN HIS FOOT CAME OFF THE PEDAL AND HIT THE THROTTLE. :o

know the feeling, has happened to me with wet shoe's as well. I rub my feet on the carpet and then test the pedals before I start the engine if it was wet outside.
Good to hear nothing serious came out if it for you. Hey and another lesson learnt

That happened to me too, but with my steering wheel. I took a hard right hand turn, my hands slipped off and hit the window. Ouch :P

I ride a motor bike to work each day, and once I filled up at a pump that had a diesel nozzel as well. When I left the servo an turned on to the road, I nearly went arse up when the tyres just slid out from under me. I dont take the bike any where near the diesel pump any more.

Ludrock, back in ancient history times, when I worked as a pump operator in a service station, that was the brief for controlling aggressive Bikies!!
Squirt the fuel into their crutch and onto the ground around their feet and the tyres!! If you could, drop an oil bottle at their feet or infront of the rear tyre!! They would not be going anywhere for quite a while!!
I did get to try it once, and blow me down........ IT WORKED! Police who came to take him away could hardly stop laughing. Pimply 16 year old in absolute control of big tough biker hood! Made their day!

Guy concerned I doubt has seen the light of day yet, and I don't think he ever had any mates, but, you know what you're like at 16, I was bomb proof!!

A similar thing happened to me a few times when i borrowed dads troopy for a while, the one that really scared me was i'd just filled up with diesel and must've walked through some then i drove around the corner to the supermarket and turning into the diveway i went to put my foot on the clutch to slow down and change gears and it slipped off, i ended up driving over the curb and not giving way to some pedestrians that i would've otherwise done, and i also came close to other cars in the driveway. real hair-raiser :P

That's scary mate!
Ahh, remember the days when servo's had about 5 attendants to clean up, wash your windscreen, check ya oil..............etc. etc.
I know that they are right onto it in all the servo's here as they're all worried about a lawsuit or workplace injury with the OHS Act 'n all.
It's just as bad when ur serving the petrol. On average was bout 4 times a day when i nearly went arse over in the shop getting the customers change.

That reminds me of something VERY funny we did to an apprentice at work , he had lost his license and was riding a BMX to work so we detailed it for him and when he went to ride off , the tyre slick we put on it made it just slide straight out from under him!!! still laughing now thinking about it , may just have been his driving skills though as he crashed about 6 cars in the year he worked there. ;D
Yep !! been their done that, got the T-shirt.

I did something similar on the first bike I owned (an early XL 185) a real power house .
;D
Any way I just finished washing and detailing it and went for a ride.
Shall we say it's a real good idea not to use tyre shine on motor bike tyres.
Hey I was a lot younger then.

[Reading the bit about slipping off the brake and onto the go pedal i am reminded of the time when I had a series 2 landy,
Late for work I slipped my working boots on at the back porch and without tying the laces Jumped into the vehicle and set off.
about 10 minutes into the journey I entered the local main road (the Nepean Highway in Melbourne) which was swarming with traffic, and this idiot slips in front just as the lights went to red. I tried to jump on the brakes but i had shut the boot laces in the door.
big bang baby not happy Jan!

lol so does that mean that on your way to the highway you didnt use your brakes ;D

my dear madpaj.
evidently you have never had the joy off operating a series 2 landy (with a diesel engine) one did not need to use the brake pedal very often, as one seldom achieved any lethal/ terminal velocity (even down hill with the wind on your rear)
I once droveback from Philip Island into a north wind and never ever managed to get out of third gear all the way to Tooradinn, and i was overtaken by several combi vans (of the sense of mortification) ;D
As for your comment about not using the brake I have to drive down several miles of farm tracks to actually get to the main highway and in those days of which I speak other families were few and fa betwen around here (unlike today)
Ah! the joy of nostalgia, and of vehicles that trained one in the art of daily survival and the use of a1/2inch open ended spanner
Regards
Angus.

My moment was very similar to those mentioned.
Armour-All on the steering wheel (not put there by me). Got to the round-a-bout and nearly went straight through.
What made it interesting was I was driving a 50 ft coach at the time. Talk about a brown undie moment! :o
