Mate, I reckon GOOD ON YA!!!!
We all had to start off with something and if your like me, I had to build my first car from every cent that I earnt!!!
Although it was a '76 Torana, I bought it from the wreckers!!!!
I did it up from there, working my arse off to have my pride and joy, engines, gearboxes, diffs (2) ;D stereos, etc.
Yes it may not look like the best truck now, but keep at it and don't get discouraged. You will soon have a truck that
may turn heads and get respect. The best thing about it is that you will learn a shitload about the truck and the work that goes
into fixing/modifying it. The best thing, is that people will ask, "wow, who built this???" and you can proudly say ME 8)

Keep up the good work,
dieselux

hi all,
I have now decided that after ive only had the lux on the road for 2 months im going to take it back off again!! its going to live in the garage for the next few months! the main reason is because I am going to fit a 1g-gte in it!! So if anyone has any info or anything about these motors or fitting these motors that would be great!!

its a 1ggte. $1000 from sss automotive. Its different to brokelux's he has the 7mgte which is a 3Litre. mine is only 2Litre. the 7mgte are about 1500ish..

25-02-2006, 09:14 PM
Ok sounds cool. The 2litre would still have a ship load a go tho wouldnt it. And does it fit in ok or do you have start cutting and shutting stuff. I was told that a 4AGZE is a good motor to chuck into a lux. Have you heard this aswell? what other motors would you recomend. Where in tassie do you live? Im from Latrobe ( BLOODY HOLE OF A PLACE )...

no there shouldnt need to be any cutting or shutting.. hopefully even the engine mounts wont be to hard.

I got started on pulling my old 3y out today. It was alot easier than i thought it would be. Its ready to come out now but ive got to get an engine crane (which im borrowing off a mate). so next weekend should only take about half hour and it will be out!! ;D

well thought i better do another update.. even though i havent done bugger all!! i think this has probably got to be the slowest ever engine conversion!! lol
i bought a new 3 row radiator and there was no way i could mount my intercooler where i first had planned and fit a thermo fan on!! so ive ended up mounting it in the bull bar!! yes i know it in the most vunrable place of all but there wasnt really many other options!! so ill just have to cover it up when in the hard core stuff!!

well the spray job cost me my dirt bike (a 92 yz250) which was worth about 2000 if i was lucky.. and i had to buy the paint which was 500 and 300 for the use of an oven.. and 280 for new doors.. but it was a mate that done it.. me mate said it would have cost around $10,000 to have got it done through someone else!! :o so im pretty happy!!

Hi mate,
nah i havent had it going yet.. ive had the motor bolted in but intercooler piping, fuel lines, radiator piping, wiring all need doing.
well the motor cost me 1000 (including bellhousing) and with radiator, piping etc etc im hoping all up i should do it for under 3000. i had to make the engine mounts but that was easy. I just made up a decent template and then took them to a mate who welded them up properly.

21-10-2006, 02:24 PM
sorry mate only just got around to making a new account since my old one buggered up when we got hacked!!

well not really any major updates! But the motor is now in the vehicle bolted up for the last time! (fingers crossed :D ) And hopefully sometime next week it will be getting dropped off do be all wired in and from their it will go straight to get the exhuast and intercooler piping done! Then all I have to do is put all the other stuff back on it and it should be done!! :D

I did come across a problem a couple of weeks ago when I put the motor in! When i sold the original 3y I gave the bloke the starter motor. But it was the starter motor to this motor!! so after a few days trying to track him down we eventually found him and he said that he had sold it to his mate with some other junk! but think its all gud now because he said he will get it back! (fingers crossed again!!)

and i think thats about it!

dropping it off tomorrow to get wired up! then straight to the exhuast place.. im just getting a 2 and half inch system which will finish up as two canons.. one either side of the spare coming out under the tray! should look the goods! :D :D
on another note.. wat do u reckon it would be worth? once its running and finished? keeping in mind it has brand new 32's etc etc!

Wow that thing is sure comin along, you sure are spending the dough on it, good work, love builds like this!

thanks mate.. but the thing is i havent really spent all that much! the major things have only been.. 800ish for tyres and rims.. 1000 for the paint job (and traded my dirt bike).. 1000 for motor and bellhousing.. and a few other little bits and pieces.. all up im hoping to have it all done for under 5grand! which is about the going price for a 85 lux with the old 3y and crappy paint job! lol..
but it defiantly helped that my uncle gave me the hilux for only a couple of days work! :D

This is my first post on this forum, and I couldnt help but pick this topic to "pop my cherry" as I think you have done a great job.

Congratulations on the build up, Car looks unreal and a few of the earlier replies are eating there words right now. Cant wait to see the end result.

In my opinion the only problem I see so far is the mounting of your intercooler. Perfect on a sedan but possibly a bit vulnerable there on a 4wd. If you are putting the WRX scoop on use a top mount intercooler, then your scoop will not only look good but it will have a purpose.

Anyway, congrats on the build and enjoy it once its off the beaten track.

rollsy2

and yea i know the intercooler isnt in the best of spots but was sort of my only option! because didnt want a top mount..

well well well!!
its been a while since an update!
I have some news...
After spending ages making a manifold for my new turbo to sit on, fabing up oil and water lines, air intake, etc.. Got it all sorted and went to take it for its maden vouyage.. and.......... it still made the same noise it was making before hand! :o
so after feeling like the biggest loser possible me and a mate worked out it was actually the rear diff!! (but to make me feel a little better, the turbo's were defiantly on the way out anyway cause they had heaps of freeplay!! hence why i thought it was them making the noise!)
soooo.. i thought bugger it.. and fitted cruiser diffs front and rear!! :waycool: rear diff also has an air locker!! (big thanks to doug for his diffs at a very cheap price! :thumb: )
and thats about it for now!
will post up some pictures of the new turbo set up soon!

gday mate.
paid 295 per rim. these are 16x10's. only come in 10's in the 16's.
heres the link to there site
4x4 4WD and four wheel drive alloy wheels in Australia (http://www.alliedwheels.com.au/)
they are the wasps.
cheers

From the web site above

Size: 16x8
PCD: 6 /139.7 & 5/150
Offset: -10 mm
Borehole: 110.5 mm

You would think that the 16 x 10's would fit as they have a -44 off set are you sure they gave you the 16 x 10's and not the 16 x 8's with only the -10 off set

Couldnt see if you said it anywhere. But what did you do for the transfer case and box?

Did you get an adapter to suit the standard?

I have a 1JZGTE, 2.5 twin turbo in my garage crying for somewhere to go.

and its lasted 12months of p-plater driving! lol

hey guys,
well after almost parting out my hilux i had a little incident the other night which has made that pointless. so im going to do the opposite and sink a bunch more money into it!
while having some fun in a bit of swampy type land i done a bottom end bearing!
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e322/derekrolls/003.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e322/derekrolls/004.jpg

so now while ive got the motor stripped i may as well build it up. going to stroke it to a 2.2L and put in forgies, do a bit to the head etc.
ill be aiming for at least 200rwkw and a motor I'll know i can give a gutful and it wont die! (this will leave the gearbox as my weakest link but not sure how I'll work around that yet)
while the motor is out i plan on pulling the body off and respraying the chassis etc. plus lots more. so keep an eye out!
cheers

yea ive still got the g52 box. And im not too keen on swapping to a different box because then ill have to get a bellhousing to suit etc. Ive read people running these g52's behind some decent power so i think ill just have a rebuilt spare one laying around and see how things go.
If i did run a different box I wouldnt mind going all crazy and trying to make a 6 speed work. :waycool:
Doubt it would be possible tho.

still gotta put lift blocks under the tray. and extended shackles in the front and back! which should be enough to get it rolling without to much scrubbing till i can afford cross over steering and more lift after christmas.

I see you have already mentioned moving your diff forward. Re drill your diff perches, this should give you some more room under yoiur guards. I did this on my old 4runner. I had a two inch spring lift extended shackles and two inch body lift combined with the diff perches allowed me to run 35's without any scrubbing. Here is a pic of some front flex.
