Well I thought I might put a thread up to show what I have done since I purchased the Bundy.
I purchased it from NSW
Heres what it looked like when I got it
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/bundymonkey/aar.jpg
It came with the following
80s springs for extra lift, 2''Body Lift, 35s BFG Muds, Front and Rear ARB Air Lockers, Sliders, Custom rear bar, bbar and PTO Winch, 240v inverter, Cibie Spots, Cargo barrier, SAAS Style seats, UHF and AM CB, Disc brake conversion on rear, Snorkel and I think that pretty much summs it up apart from the spare motor and various other parts inc wheel spacers alternators and the like.
Since then I have added a number of accessories and mods.
The wrx top mount intercooler:
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/bundymonkey/abi.sized.jpg
The dual Battery System:
Will add pick later. Had my girl friends old man help me out with that had to mod wheel arch with hammer just a little. ;D
The Claws for play sold the BFs and have some cheap hancooks for my daily driver...Cant afford to run 35s all the time but I am going to put either 32s or 33 next time around looks pretty stupid with the 31s:
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/bundymonkey/aaw.sized.jpg
31s flexing at 2Brutals opening
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/bundymonkey/abu.sized.jpg
The 35 Bias CLAWS
And I have just recently purchased a set of 170 Lightforce from 2Brutal what a top light for the size. Makes my other lights look crap so Im going to do the head light up grade soon.
Mods to come:
Air tank (bigger one) similar setup to Mad macs)
Alternator beef up
Tuned (Goes in on Monday)

I actually used the lockers on the weekend for the first time in i dont know how many months. I was doing a flex pose on the front drain and had the diagonal spin ::).
I am really looking forward to coming out to you will leave me for dead in the zook but I will give most things a go. I just need to work out how to get the claws out there. So far none of my mates are definates. My old man may even come out with his 90s prado.

I'm not sure if I'm trailering the zook out yet, or driving it, but if I'm trailering it, you welcome to chuck the claws on the car trailer.....the zook doens't take up much room, so there will be heaps of room for some 35's.
Hey, pretty sure i saw ur bundy this arvo near mooloolabah turn off on the motor way, looks pretty funy with those small tyres with all that lift! ;)

Well after driving it to work for a week was almost home on Thursday when I heard a slight knock coming from the enguine so I called into my mechanic and I have since found out that it broke a gugeon pin (holds the piston to the conrod) So she is being repaired again but getting some extra work while its all apart. So might get a few more horses out of it yet

13-09-2005, 10:03 AM
SH!T thats no good Andrew......is that being fixed under warranty? as they would have that out while doing the crank wouldn't have they?
Will it still be right for the Forum Meetup?

No its just old age. But Cause I know the guy he is going to do all the labour and I just have to pay for parts and put a sticker on the car for him. So it will work out much cheaper.
Sure will hopefully have it back next week but will be 2 weeks at the worst

Well on my way home last night i called into the mechanic and they now have the head off it and are moving pretty quickly so should have it back on time.
They had let the front wheels down to make it easier to work on cause it was too high and a pain ;D

Just got the report back from the head and it failed the crack test as it had 4 in it :( However it passed the leak test ??? But because we are going to be running extra boost etc then it would not be advisable to continue with the same one so Ive got to get the head off the spare motor I have
sounds like your problems keep getting better and better will it be going for cruiser ;D

Well the motor is all back together finally after a few little problems along the way but it should be all back together on Friday and ready to take for a spin :o
And was talking to the mechanic how I wanted to do the 80 series diff conversion and he has found a set of diff housings for free so it might be happening sooner than I was anticipating ;D ;D ;D........But the minister for finance is already into me :-X
So now I have to do a fair bit research to find out whos who in the zoo

But serously, glad to here its finally done, and will be interested to see what kinda of performance gain it got...
As for the 80 series diff swap, let me know what you want to do with the std. bundy stuff, I might be interested in both housings.

Yeah well even I told him to get his hand off it when he said that... but Id be stoked if it did ;D
I think I will be able to use the rear guts in the front 80 so I will be keep 1 of the lockers then just have to get another one. I cant see it happening soon as there will be alot of research and collection of parts to get but will be fun no doubt and in this time I am suppose to be buying a house :-X

Well I thought and update was in order since it has been awhile.
Finally got it back and have noticed alot of difference in performance down low. The motor is still really tight and we are only running a max of 7psi boost and no intercooler for the first few thousand kms but everything is looking promising. I am looking at changing the thermostat housing set up as it is not the best in the world and I believe that it has probably been the back bof my overheating problems. I will also intall a thermofan to help push the air through.

One thing in the favour of a 1uzfe conversion into your Toyota the snorkel is on the right side for the engine. Not like mine I had to get a new left mudguard before fitting the snorkel on the drivers side.

Hey Bundy Monkey, I'll be watching this thread with great interest as I'm about to do a 1UZ conversion to my 75. Just wondering which sump location you are using? I was planning on rear sump (SC400). I don't have any body lift ATM but will if need be. Anyway good luck :)
I will be using a front sump which i believe will have to be modded to fit although looking at them I think which ever sump config you use you will have to mod it so it doesnt really matter

Andrew and I just went down and seen Kane at Komited Kustoms. The Lexus V8 is all fitted!! Only took Kane a day and a half!!! The engine looks tiny in the engine bay compared to my 4runner....but looks more factory then the old 2LT.
Some pics!
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album49/Bundy_s_Lexus_V8_001.sized.jpg
Drivers side engine mount and exhaust manifolds. These are the best std. manifolds of the models available. Nemesis, Boof and I, all have the worst ones (bloody terrible actually) fitted to ours for clearance reasons. The bundy is able to run them nicely!
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album49/Bundy_s_Lexus_V8_003.sized.jpg
Sump clearance...currently is a front sump, but Andrew had a mid sump which he will try on to see if it clears the diff any better...At the moment there is plenty of clearance, but that's mainly because of the suspension lift. A big bump and the pinion would probably hit the diff. The factory oil filter will also be too big. It currently only just clears the chassis (left of pic) But the PTO drive for the winch clears the sump nicely, which is the rod to the left of the sump.

Itll be more than ready by TT07 and as much as I would love to take it down fuel costs alone would make it a killer. hey bundy monkey i know u probably get sick of answering this but how much would say either a half cut or motor set u back $$$ wise and wich one would be better to get and is there any good sites i can check out for info in regards to doing this conversion and if u dont mind answering how much has this set u back to date and could you give me a rough list of parts would be much apreciated as i'm trying to make my mind up wether in the long run it would be better slash cheaper to do this than rebuild my 2l diesel motor

http://www.lextreme.com/
This will help you out on all the motor info.
Parts needed for the 1UZ
All prices are approx as they vary
You will need an engine ($1000) Loom ($900ish from Venom) or Half cut ($2200) I think if I was to do it again I would probably go the half cust as you can get other little bits and pieces of it. Either a CRS or Dellows Bellhousing Kits which include Bellhousing clutch flywheel and a few other little bits ($1500) exhaust ($800 for mild steel or $1200 stainless) Fuel pump intank-need a high flow for the efi and hoses to suit ($200) Mounting the engine with custom mounts ($1200) and a few other bits and pieces but in total if you can do a bit of work yourself and dont mind getting your hands dirty you can probably get away with it for around $6kish
Last time i rebuilt my diesel it was around $4500 so for an extra $1500 its worth it in my mind as the seals in your fuel pump generally cost around $900-$1000 to get fixed and seem to go every 3-4 years as they change the diesel. Also if anything goes wrong with the motor you just get another for $900 and throw it in. And just a final thing you go from about 20ishkW if your lucky to around 130kW at the wheels so just a little improvement.

Lookin awesome Bundy, wish mine looked like that right now!! I'm now waiting on my Bellhousing kit to arrive :( What fuel pumps you using? I had a bloke tell me the other day that I should have a VL turbo pump feeding a surge tank then a good Bosch pump from there. This sounds like overkill and I cant see why I need a surge tank
Bundy
14-11-2006, 06:14 PM
I got told the same by a few people however i went to a Fuel Injection place and they said that it is a bit of overkill. I just have the low pressure pump(first shot after the filter) feeding a Bosch 710 high pressure pump and although its not running yet seems to go alright(I have to fix one of my fuel connection as the fuel was pissing out everywhere cause it wasnt sealing properly. The VL turbo pump would be a high pressure pump so that should really be after the surge tank as you should really only have a low pressure pump feeding it as once its full it will turn off

Try swaping them side to side i know rear ones on later model crusiers only go on one side they can be used on the wrong side but are difficult to bleed i've had to bleed them with the line's connected but holding them up off the car using a spacer between the pads.

Hi again Bundy Monkey, You may have read in my 75 build up thread that I've got some probs fitting my 1UZ. I'm guessing we share the same front chassis dimensions and firewall shape, but must have different gearbox's. Looking at your pics your engine is sitting higher on the chassis rails to where mine wants to sit. Just curious to know if Kane has had to move your gearbox foward or modify your firewall to get the UZ to fit up. Any clues at this stage would be great, Cheers mate

hey bundy monkey this is a question for u, or any one that could answer for me the rear end in the bunderra feels really sloppy what could this be i was thinking it might be my bearings but i only notice it when coming down off a curb or something.
And whats the the best way to get rid of some rust i was thinking of using a wire wheel attached to a grinder would that be to harsh and leave marks in the metal im going to bog over the area anyway
any help would be great thanks

My front chassis is actually marginally smaller than yours so you should have more room! However Kane did massage the firewall to give clearance of about 25mm at the rear of the motor. The gearbox remaind in the same spot however I also have a different gearbox and transfer to you too......Even though the Bundy is a 70series it is very different to all other 70s. I also have a 2" body lift which may allow it to sit in better!

It could be a few things but it sounds more like bushes or perhaps a loose bolt in the suspension arms(inc panhard). To check your bearings jack each side up and grab the wheels and shake it if there is a clicking noise coming from the hub then its likely to be your bearings if not then its more than likely they are fine. But i would start with the suspension links first.
As for the rust there is no right and wrong way just whatever you are happy with. I would prefer to completely cut it and and weld a new bit in but thats my opinion as i dont like bog. Remember we dig metal out of the ground and it spends the rest of its life trying to get back in it!!

Yep, V6 Bundy is correct...LA1 is the code for engine conversion.....QLD Transport have a record of what is written on the Compliance plate....so while you could easily add different mod codes to the plate, as soon as they look your details up you'll be screwed.

If you dont have any sort of sus or body lift i wouldnt think you strugle to get 33s on! But if you dont have that put the lift in before getting the tyres as it will help alot more offroad, or get a diff lock.
As for the bar anybody thats handy with metal work should be able to knock one of those out! Yeah, they are all fine....luckily it happen on the turnoff to peachester, so was only doing 60km/hr instead of a 100.
Andrew was running a wheel spacer on that corner, it must have got loose, eventually snapping 3 studs off, and pretty much stripping the rest. The rear disc rotor has a big flat spot in it from dragging along the bitumen, and the rear flare got smashed by the tyre coming out.
He got it towed home on a tilt tray, which ended up costing a phew hundred. Shitty end to an awesome weekend!

If you use standard fronts off an 80 for the front and heavy duty ones for the rear it will give you about 3-4" of lift depending on what acc you have

No as it was on the car when i bought it. Its basically Nissan Patrol rear rotors and Subaru calipers with some fabbed up brakets to hold it all in place. I can take some photos if you want

Great pics there mate, two wheels hey, hope they were the front two ;) I've never seen that much water at LCMP. Where was the shot of the water crossing taken?
Bundy
18-10-2007, 03:39 PM
Nope only the drivers side 2 were on the ground :D
The water shot was taken in the gully down from the dump after trecka and on the way to the pig pen. The weekend ew went out for the 8 day there was much more water and a fair bit of grass which was good to see.

Well believe it or not this POS still is around though more a driveway ornament after I managed to put a healthy crack in the transfer case and it took a while just to find one as the vacuum shift is apparently quite rare. In the end I managed to pick up a brand spankas one for alot less than what most wreckers were asking.
