needs to have
tray
lots of TOOB
bullbar - this i modelled of the one i am currently building for the zooki. ;D
coils
4 link front and rear

Is it to scale? Just looking at the front on shot, it looks like the center of gravity is fairly high slung. Wouldn't the hilux diffs give the wheel track a wider berth than that?

You'd want to get the drivetrain and seat as low as possible. Remember for the ultimate stability, you'd ideally want the COG in a buggy between the wheels, not over them.

Otherwise the drawings look great, which I think is what everyone is commenting on. How about some brainstorming on the design guys? Help him build a weapon...

Spike_Sierra
23-08-2005, 04:13 PM
its kindof to scale,
its only a little project and the teacher has no idea, so im pretty much just getting a design up, then i got to animate ???
which sucks, might do a bit of a tuff truck course and a RTI test ;)
engine bay is going to be covered so i dont need to worry about that and only have to make driveshafts and control arms, everything else will be covered, more pics after tomorrow.

Same Here twisty.
Auto Cad works ok But solid works is better and easier for doing that, he's put a lot of time into that design. Auto CAD takes for ever for 3d/ solid modeling.
He has my praise. Might have to take over my title at work as CAD god.

I didnt realise you worked with cad twisty... so do i...

i was going to try to model up my patrol, but it would have been way to hard with Acad, would be much easier with a proper 3D studio program or whatever...

Might draw up a custom steel winch bar or some sliders for the patrol though... although i'll need a model of my front end, and i dont think i could even be bothered doing that...

would be sweet if i could download a full model somewhere, then you can just add stuff as you please ;)

8in lift with 44' claws here i come! ;D

PS put some fatter wheels on that thing brenno!!

nice work buddy, wher are some more pics ;D

i used to be an ace with auto cad, havent used it in a while, but once u learn all the shortcuts etc on it, its really easy to use

and to animate, u can also import to other drawing programs that can animate, but if u need to do the detailed drawings of it, remember to use "solview"and "soldraw" ;D they save a hell of alot of time, its alot more acurate than u, especialy with springs nuts etc :P and things u dnt want in it that the program adds u can easily delete

been away from school for ages on holidays so going back tomorrow should have some more piccies!!

i need to draw the wheels bigger and then work out how to do tyres ??? ???

DEEV8
19-09-2005, 08:18 AM
you should be able to do wheels and tyres by extruding in a circle/loop. I forget what its called, but you draw the section of it then extrude it. Then if you want to do tread, you just model up one part of it and array it at the same radius/diameter as the outside of the tyre.

Spike_Sierra
19-09-2005, 10:34 AM
ok tyres are done, they look pretty wicked and didnt take to much time.

just built a donut shape, flattened off the top and then added bars to look like boggers ;)
pics up soon

Yeah mate, am a civil designer, so mainly just do plan layouts, and long and cross sections for subdivisional work. I've never done anything like what Brenno is doing, wouldn't know where to even start doing something in 3D.

Anyway, Brenno, keep up the good work mate, its looking tops!!!

I am going to start up a thread (maybe) when I start on the camper, I hope you like them Brenno I know what your going through.

Those Jeep ones look great. ;)
Just dont mount the front of the leaf springs so high in real life as it will make it wander every where. The front need to be lower than the rear to get the roll centre correct. Still on a non road buggy I dont think it would matter that much? :)

Nice Rockwells too and look like the 2.5 ton variety. Should have drawn in some Volvo portials instead. :D

Funny thing is that looking at an old Hilux today, it looked as if the fronts were mounted up a bit higher than the rears on the front axle but never have seen that on a rear spring?? Doing that on the rear happens when people run long shackles causing it to wander because of the change in the relationship to the front spring eye height plus the extra leverage they cause.

I do love that modelling you have done and wish I had been taught something like that. I had to teach myself just how to do 2d layouts in Corel Draw and teach myself how to make my own web site as well. No computer was taught at all at school as the year I finished my HSC was the same year teachers got there first look at a computer! Gee I feel old now. :-\

did some more work today,

sorted out the the 4 link in the rear and did some dodgy looking driveshafts, but dont need to go into great detail, just need to get animating,

dont look at the dodgey colours, need to group everything that is the same colour and sort it all out, decided to go with windows so i dont have to do an interior or person. gave it a bit of a spring lift so i could git more flex too..

Toke me awhile to bulit it, like a week to make one make a truck. It's not that hard. ;)

Did you find a basic 3D model of a lux or CJ on the net then build the details underneath, or start from scratch?

Have you modeled them with enough detail to build from, or is it just to look good and get ideas from?

They look really good

Brenno, the flex vid is cool 8)

Panhard rod never counts as a link and only the amount of attachments point of the links to the frame count. So a radius arm setup like on Fords is only a 2 link for instance. ;)

Beg to differ mate.....
Why would you not count the panhard? (for example the pangard above certainly looks t attach to the frame)...
I know my TJ for example is NOT 4link front & rear ;)

I dont make the rules my friend but that is just the way it is and does not make sense to me either! Check out Pirate if you dont believe me or Google it. A stock TJ does have and a 4 link front and rear.

Im with wooders on this one.

For example
Patrol,
3 link front - 2 radius arms and a panhard
5 link rear - 2 upper and 2 lower control arms and a panhard
Plenty of kits to install a 5 link front

Although somewhere along the line people started calling whats in your photo a 3 link with panhard, to distinguish it from a triangulated 4 link, and now they apparently dont mention the panhard at all ???
