Hi there
I own a 1990 Toyota 4Runner and have spent around 3000 in the last 6 months fixing various things that have gone wrong with it! I REALLY don't wanna get rid of it and would like to know if anyone has any idea where to start on rebuilding or replacing the engine etc....so that essentially it is a NEW car????? Please also tell me if you think this is ridiculous and totally NOT worthwhile as I have NO IDEA about vehicle engines!!! Thanks heaps :)

How many kms has the engine done and is it petrol or desiel?
What about fitting a 4runner V6 that is in god condition?? comes with everything needed to fit, bolt in affair.

Its a petrol engine that's done 250,000km! I am totally open to suggestion on the type of engine to put in it but don't need anything too extravagant (a six would be nice!!:))!

If the engine does need replacing this would probably be the best option. I would have no idea of a price though. ??? Has a mechnic told you your engines stuffed? What did you get fixed for $3000 in the first place?

Mechanic told me AFTER I spent the 3g that I would have been better off replacing the engine or buying a new car! Lovely fellow >:(. The costs were for (and I COULD have it somewhat wrong being a total novice!) Master Cylinder (brakes don't work!), Crank Shaft (still iffy!) Harmonic Balancer (?) and numerous other little things like them forgetting to put the clips back on the radiator hose causing it to boil over...but of course that wasn't THEIR problem!!!! The minor things like new radiator hoses etc I didn't have a problem with as the car is 15 years old and these things happen, but I am just wary of MORE expense! :)

Dunno how this whole forum site thing works but in case I'm going to be rude by just signing out, I'm going to let you know! Be back tomorrow arvo if anyone comes up with any ideas or needs more information! I'll try and post a pic if that helps...I think she's a looker but you guys might think otherwise....basically I hope to have about 10,000 to put toward her rebuild/facelift/whatever!!!
Thanks heaps for all your help :)
Hope to speak with you later!
Heres the link to the engine I was speaking of. It mentions deposit at the end of the thread but doesn't confirm. I was in Bryan's rig a few months back and that engine runs fine. More power too ;D

With $10,000 you should be able to put a V6 in and have change for bigger tyres or diff locks. ;D
Everyone usually just logs in and out as they please ;)

Thanks for the scouting Craig ;D
I've got another person talking about a sale right now too. He's in SA, but his 4Runner is stuck in Alice Springs with a seized V6 in it : :o
What motor has your 4Runner got in it? Is the 4 cylinder?

Looking at Twisty's RV6 and my 4cyl 90 4runner the engine mounts on the chassis are different, so a Rv6 motor wont bolt straight in. so u might as well buy a commodore V6 or as nem and Twisty have done a V8 (Sorry nem if u havent sold your motor but I am posting this after u told me it was sold)

No worries mate, I probably wouldn't pay to convert to a 3VZE. As good an engine they may be, for the same $ you could get more power like you said.

Hi Rachel,
It certainly sounds like you have received some bad advice there in regard to your engine >:( If you would like to post the problems that you have been having and I can deal with it from there and provide some options for you. ??? Hopefully there will be a light at the end of the tunnel and we can come up with a solution that will solve your problem
Regards
Keith ;D
is your engine a 22r?
If it is a 3liter stright 6 petrol (7mge/7mgte) from a toyota supra or cressida should bolt in quit easily!!
Im about to start on this conversion shortly myself (into my 89 dualcab hilux).
And if you have a G52 gearbox you can use a stock toyota bellhousing to bolt the mtor to your gearbox!!!
and the engine mounts bolt straight up to (aparently).
Check out www.supracharged.com
