It can get very cold that time of the year.
Make sure you take worm cloths and few blankets

Which area specifically did you wish to cover, what type of vehicle will you be taking, and what equipment do you have?

not sure of the specific area yet, was hoping to get some background info first. we have a 2.8td nl pajero, which has std suspension, dueler a/t's, air compressor, snatch strap etc. havent got a winch yet. been looking around at hand winches. any suggestions?
dont mind bush camping or caravan park, got fridge etc.
hoping to do some medium to hard tracks.
probably going by ourselfs.
any info you could pass on would be greatly appreciated.

At Easter, in a pajero with A/T's and no electric winch, you will have to stick to the easier tracks, PM me when you know which area you wish to visit, Grant Pioneer racecourse, to wanangatta is a good area to explore if you havent been there.

The weather changes so much up there that you could get anything. Last year we had snow New Years day up at the Pinnicles. One of the best drives up there is Basalt Knob track to Blue Rag Range. Have done it twice now. Truely spectacular. Did it Cup Weekend the other week and travelled through some of the fire affected areas. Very eerie!! Not a hard drive but a very memorable one.

Tobacco Flat just outside of Mansfield is a great base as is Comet Flat Reserve just outside Woodspoint where we spent last weekend. To get there though you have to cross the Gouldburn River twice. the tracks range from real tame to extremely wild the choice is entirely yours. Jerico is also another nice place to stay

I am looking at going out to Craig's Hut and Mt Stirling this coming weekend. Has anyone been in this area lately? I have heard mixed reports that Telephone Box Junction is closed as it is badly cut up?.

I will be doing it alone in standard DiscoII with AT tyres and no recovery equipment except for a Snatch Strap.

It will be my first solo trip so I am a little more concerned than I would normally be.

If you have been out their in the past week or so, please let me know what the conditions are like.

Haven't been out there lately but have heard the most of the tracks are open now. Would be a bit warry about going alone without comprehensive recovery gear. The weather can change so much out there so be prepard. maybe you should look at joining a club so that your going out with experianced drivers with all the recovery gear to help out if needed.

Fatalbert,
how was it?
my dad went up there about 3 weeks ago, was pouring down while going up there in his troopy, said it was like a waterfall coming down this steep section, but he made it up no worries with thin AT's, weather cleared when at the top and they got some nice photos of craigs hut,
now i wanna go there!
cheers,
daniel.

Hi BushBoy,

Did not make it there - "GUJohnno" comment just added to my concerns and I just decided that it was probably better to go with a group.

Will be doing the "Haunted Stream" trip on the 10th and 11th (as per the Boilling Billy publication) with some other Disco owners - I will post something after that.

Fat Albert...
I doubt you would have had any worries doing the Craigs Hut track...I have also done the Haunted Stream track last easter and it was a touch wet i did have to winch one time comming up a steep hill after one of the 45 or so river crossings...And there was no way i could get up the Dawson City track or the Boomerang spur as they were wet and VERY difficult to climb. But that is a great drive and some spectacular scenery..fishing was tough but.

Let us know how it went. I'm also heading that way on the 11th. Going from Dargo-Haunted Stream-Swifts Creek-Hells Gate-Mount Seldom Seen-McKillops Bridge-Deddick Trail. Got to love the holidays. A few hundred kms nearly all off road plenty of river crossings. Can't wait.
By the way if your doing any crossings in the Dargo-Talbertville area becareful as some a very deep. Have had to pull some out and pull their spark plugs out to pump water out of the engine. Have had water come up to the windscreen a few weeks ago!!
