View Full Version : YOUR FAVOURITE CUSTOM TRUCK OF ALL TIME!
Okay guys,
Over the past five years we've featured hundreds of different custom trucks in Australian 4WD Monthly.
Old trucks, new trucks, tourers, rockhoppers - the whole gamut.
So which custom truck is your all-time favourite?
The turbo intercooled 4.5 80 series in edition 4wd offroad australia No 23.... ;D ;D ;D

But I may be biased............ ;D

Sure Darren - that's gotta be better than Dobbin's Cruiser!

Pete Antunac's yellow beast with the current suspension setup, PPPHHHHOOOOAAAARRRRR what a sexy beast. And a close second goes to Glenn Dobbin's monster, another wild sexy beast. Anybody got some good photos of these trucks in action? I need more photos!!!
And in a close 3rd comes good ol' Milo, the bush mechanics beast. I love that thing :)

I liked Glen's truck, but I thought it a bit over the top.
You haven`t featured it yet but my fav rig ATM is Ducans 75 series. Even though it is not really a 75 series cruiser anymore it is still realalistic and is buildable by anybody with a half decent income. Man I love that rig.
and it looks heaps better with the new paint job

my fav custom truck of all time is one you havent featured ..... yet! It is a GQ and it is mine!!! Now what i have done isnt anything much from the outside but it has been done to make my life a bit easier. Firstly there is a dual temp guage that tells me the temp outside, the temp inside, and also the temp in the fridge - gotta tell how cold the beer is!!! (try finding that on the shelf!!) secondly i have reversing lights in the bumper that have - on the one switch - 1 position that have them on all the time, another one that has them on only whilst reversing and then for such occasions such as a main street or the like i can can the whole thing and switch it all off - now i dare you to find a way of doing that easily!!!mods yet to come are a aircraft style switch that controls the whole winch setup, 3 guages that tell me all the time exactly what the voltages are in each, and some more interesting stuff that i would prefer to keep secret at the moment - all you have to know is that when done all that will decide the time i come home from going away is when i feel like it!!!
Jordie
The temp thing you can buy from engel, or dick smiths.
The reverse/work lights on all my 4wd's have had power from switch on dash when needed, switch on light for power all the time, and switched on with the reverse lights, as I have done alot of night 4wding.
I also wire the low beam from the aux battery so I can leave them on to set up in the dark, do recovery, or repairs change tyres etc without engine running.......
And I run a voltage gauge and switch so I can check each battery on the one gauge.

Well I think it was just before 4wd monthly was offically launched - but I still have the original writeup of Mick Whiteheads TJ from about 5 years ago and it was a lot of inspiration for my toy...
HE did alot to it during its life too.... but in the end got sick of the hand in pocket.... GQ shorty on 36's with a V8 is now under construction.....

If I look back at his TJ as it was feature back then it now seems fairly tame - and whilst I mostly looked at iot for ideas on how I would do things different etc - it was still source of inital inspiration.....Anyways that would probably be my favourate alltime feature....Not the most extreme but......
Darren as for the cost - well insiders often refer to as the Just Empty Every Pocket syndrome....
I love my Toyotas but that GU above is awsome !!! ;D
be great on side angles....NOT!!!

You should see it at speed on the freeway.
It really lurches through corners. ;D
I bet it does, guess making them unstable makes for better pics with wheels in the air easier......

Low CoG is the rule - if your tyres aren't JUUUUST rubbing then your lift is too high or your tyres too small http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung/aktion/action-smiley-034.gif ;)
If your tyres dont rub it means you can fit bigger ones.
But I like to trim the fenders, not lift the car.

Gee that must be how this pic was taken then.
Is that right oh godly one?

Actually that car had OME springs, and Koni shocks to suit a toyota, and the lean there was great enough the drivers mirror was dragging on the ground........
Better to do it there than on the road I say, but if you think a daily driver should handle like a bowl of half set jelly, more power to you.....
But dont forget hieght by width = tip over angle, why would you want a 4wd which tips over easier for hard core 4wd????

There was an article a while ago on "RAMBO" on a Dodge Ram V10.
I liked one of the parting comments where he gives an XR8 a run for it's money. ;D

One of the yanks know (via the web) has been involved in fitting a Dodge Vipe v10 8L to a Wrangler - NOW that would be impressive....

There was a YJ (the one with square headlights) with a V10 in it in Top Truck Challenge a few years ago.
Blue??? may of been it????
Red.
Had 36 or 38 inch swampers if my memory is correct. Most of the rigs had 38`s and only 1 or 2 had bigger.
It was about 3 or 4 years ago.
V10... 373 kw and 800 odd nm... thats got to be good.....
38-49" swamprs in four years :o that means by 2011 they'll be making 67" swampers :o :o
That could make things a little interesting ;D ;D
I think now we have 49".. [4 ft] they might go up in foot sizes now... 5', 6', 7'.......
