Default Engel Fridge/Freezer + TwoZone Compartment Review

Hey all - just threw up a review of my Engel / TwoZone on my blog.

Check it out if you like:

Engel Portable Fridge-Freezer and TwoZone Compartment Review « Undefined Journeys

Going to throw up another post in the next few days detailing the custom mods I did to the Engel and Twozone to get them running even better.

Excellent write up.
Let us know when you update it.

Did you add a fan to the condensor coils to improve circulation heat transfer?.
Since the engel is 24v, you could run 2 12v puter fans in series

As the engels are box shaped, you could easily cover them in 1" foam sheet, this would greatly improve their efficiency.
When there running cold, touch the outside of the fridge, and if thats also cold, then that shows you thermal losses due to poor insulation.

Thanks Trains.

Well you hit some of it on the head. I've built a custom shroud over the back vent with a 120mm fan sucking air out. Inside the TwoZone basket in 1 corner I have made a metal L shaped shroud that sits around an 80mm fan and stops just before the lid. This circulates cold air up over the contents in the top compartment.

When I first got the TwoZone I was bitterly dissapointed - hardly passable cool drinks on top in summer. Now it is icey cold up there and everything works beautifully.

Going to get a custom canvas bag made up for it with some soft foam insulation sewn into it soon too.

G,Day have just read your reveiw and found it an interesting read, just come back from crossing Simpson and fridge size came up, we have an 40ltr arb/engel but borrowed a mates 60 ltr weaco for extra size but found it too tall to be easily got into, the finanance minister has suggested the two zone for the top of ours. In your write up you say it keeps things frozen down below and like a fridge up top for drinks, but can the bottom section keep things like ice cream frozen, and if some one is verically challanged like my wife, is it still easy to get into with the split system that the two zone gives.

Cheers Damian

That was the big reason I went for the Evakool 70 litre - if a fridge is too tall Murphy's law dictates the item you need will aways be on the bottom.

I built a basket that just fits cans of beer along or in the top of our 60ltr and slips in to the top of the Waeco. Now I just lift that out to access the colder frozen stuff below. Not perfect but it does get over the *to deep* issues with a single zone 60. Anyway I still like the Waeco.

But good read Mr Bishi

Nice mods MrBishi but a word of warning:
I can't speak for Engel as I don't know but if you use the two-zone on a Waeco you kiss any warranty good-bye. (As told to me by our Waeco rep.)
