Wondering if a ball joint flip is a safe and effective way to get frontal lift?

Just by flipping the ball joints you would not get any lift,The ball joint flip is meant to fix toe adjustment after a lift.
So all you wheel alighment settings return to normal.
Hope this helps ;D

Are you sure? I was just on the clubisuzu.com forum and a bloke reckons he got 40mm doing a ball joint flip- where the ball joint is unbolted off the A-arm, and bolted back on upside down (or something).

my brother in law did this with his pajero.doesnt actually give more lift, just allows more lift without your tyres pointing in strange directions
never heard of this modification, what does it involve, do you switch upper and lower ball joints?, im currently looking at ball joint spacers for my hilux

cant remember exactly, have seen it,but dont know much about ifs.the top swingarm or whatever it is i think used to bolt on top of the ball joint, but he made up some kind of adaptor and turned the ball joint upside down so the swingarm thingybolted underneath the ball joint,i think about two inches lower than it used to be.clear as mud i know.anyway it enabled him to wind the torsion bars up a lot more without the nasty camber on the wheels.does this make any sense,i can picture it but having trouble explaining. :D

got the following off clubisuzu.com forum. This is regarding Isuzu's and MU's in particular.
1) The ball joint isn't inverted. Ex factory it is bolted to the top of the upper A-arm. You separate the ball joint, unbolt it then re bolt it to the underside of the A-arm. You are still using basically the same mounting points and it's the lower A-arm that is load bearing so you don't have to worry about weakening things.
With wheel alignment and a few extra shims the road handling is normal.
2) Can help on moderate lift. Last weekend fitted new shackles to rear, 70mm longer - giving net height gain of 35mm. For the front I adjusted torsion bars up, then balanced height along sides and across front with a spirit level and tape. Because there was less room now at the top bumpstop gap, I popped out the bumpstop and cut off half of the 30mm of rubber. Then in 15 minutes each side , I dropped the balljoint to the underside of the A arm - and this has restored full bumpstop gap and movement.
For the new longer shackles, I got a cobbers firm to strengthen them. Made the sides of 8mm steel with a 3-4" plate of steel fitted inside the shackle and welded to either side to give them total rigidity.
Result: a fairly easy procedure, not much cost, very strong shackles for $85, and a 35mm lift all round which is very useful. Just did wheel alignment - necessary after this much change. For Chch people a clubbie referred me to a chap called Costa at Watkins Wheel Alignment in the old bus workshop on Moorhouse Rd - $45. Excellent job and way cheaper than many.
The balljoint flip is optional, but you appear to need this or at least trimming off the upper bumpstop to keep the upper gap and movement.

There's still more on flips but I think this is pretty good.
A balljoint flip will only give you more travel, and as stated before, allow you to get your alignment right...... i had 1" spaceers made for the balljoint flip, but after some consultation on the isuzu forum, they say 1/2" is maximum... so i'm going to have to spend a bit of time sawing one in half :-X Once you go to maximum wind down like i have, you can only just get your camber correct......... so when you re-index your T/Bs as i plan on doing, i will have to flip and space to get some alignment, and i will have to remove and cut in half my lower bump stops. I'll post pics in the "Project Garth" thread when i get to doing it.

I saw that one Noel ;D it's a handy guide for those that haven't done it before. There was another one on that web site also about re-indexing T/Bs and adding spacers.... but i can't seem to find it now :-\
