G’day guys, just a quick question.
I just rebuilt my 2H, and I was wondering how long it takes to put up the oil pressure? Will it only do it when the motor is going, or should it pump it up when you turn the motor over on the starter?

james, first a question.did you prime the pump?if you did it should start pumping while winding over.in a petrol i always take the coil lead out and wind over till i have oil pumping out the sender hole.not sure how you would do it in a diesel.i you havent primed the pump you probably wont get oil pressure till you do. ;)

Yeah we just tryed to prime it today, but its still not pumping up oil. Had a bit of advise to start it, and hoping on the basis that a few more RPM will be enough to get it going. If not, well its off with the sump to check all the feed pipes. that fails, im going to rip the front off again to see if the pump is okay. That fails, well sledge hammer time........

how did you try to prime it?did you prime it when you built the engine?is it an internal pump?

After changing the oil and filter on the weekend, when I started the engine it took a couple of seconds for the oil pressure to build up. ( had to fill the filter.) On this Troopie and my old one... both 2H's, if the oil pressure didn't rise after about 7-10 seconds with the engine running it would automatically switch itself off. ( low oil pressure cutout ) or something like that.
The oil pressure sender is near the pump right? Remove this and see if you get oil flow out of this.
How do you prime the oil pump seeing that it is internal?

Its all good now, so dont worry about it. It pumped up after the motor had been running.
Ill be back later, cos im still working on it.
Thanks Guys ;D

best way to prime em is to pull the pump apart and pack it with vaseline or even grease.that way you get oil pressure straight away.
mickyd, you should only need to prime the pump when you have had the engine apart,a must anytime you are rebuilding a new engine.

The problem with my pump is that the gears are a little worn, so cranking it over wasnt enough. So when it got enough RPM it fired up.
Thanks for all you kind suggestions guys. ;D
they kept me going, and the sledge hammer away ;D
