Hi All :),
I drive a SWB 83 NA Pajero, and a couple of years ago, I decided to fit some 31x10.5 R15 Cooper Discoverer ST's which have now done about 120,000kms and are nearly due for replacement. The long distances that I have got out of my tyres are mostly to do with my car's relatively light weight (1200kg) and my driving. I am considering getting some 32x11.5 R15 cooper Discoverer STT's because I would like some larger tyres, and I understand that this is about the largest tyre that I can fit to my car without raising it at all. My Discoverer ST's have been nothing short of fantastic and i'm wondering what people think of the Discoverer STT's?? Are they any better? What sort of distance could I expect from a set of 32 inch Discoverer STT tyres? Although I am really happy with my ST's, I would like some larger rubber and the ST's don't come in 32's, only 33's, which I think is too big for my car. Alternatively, I have been offerred some nice rims with some 265/75 R15 Bridgestone A/T's on them, which is cool, but I don't know if I can rely on these tyres to take me the same places that my Cooper's have. Maybe I could get some tamer tyres for city and highway driving, and get some extreme off road tyres for 4WDing? Does anybody know about Mongrel tyres or any other cheaper monoformed/retreaded/remoulded tyres, or other cheaper aggressive treaded tyres? Are they OK? What sort of life could I expect from some of the cheaper tyres? ??? I'm sorry for asking so many questions, but I am nearly due for some new rubber and I would apprieciate as much feedback on all these tyres (and any others) to help me make an inform decision in the next few months. Thanks for listening to me! ;)

I stayed away from the STTs after hearing a few bad reports about chipping and put on a set of MT/Rs. I've found them to be excellent for what i need. They are great offroad and are very suprisingly good on road. I needed a tyre that i could play with on the weekend and then drive it down the highway to work each day without wearing too fast. They have now done just over 10000km on the hilux and have worn stuff all even with a few trips to landcruiser park. I am so happy with them that i have just put a set of 285/75/16 MT/Rs on the mrs GU. Just something to keep in mind!

Check out issue no 71 as it has a very good comparison of all or most of the mud terrain tyres, including Coopers & the MTR's. One of my friends have just put a set of MTR's on their Jeep Cherokee.

I am favouring the BFG's to replace my crappy standard Bridgestone 693's
