I'm looking at resetting and adding a leaf to the rear as the springs arn't as flat as my mates MU's when he did his.
Will I lose much articulation like this against going new with maybe less leaf(s)?

Also, after reading tha AM Torsion bar thread, I'm as confused as a XXXX drinker. ???

I don't have as many pennies as I'd like- therefore: If I get new torsion bars (pedders), I'll go the reset+add-a-leaf.

If I go the new leafs, torsion bars get cranked up- as is.

I've got a steel bar (heavy bastard) with rancho 9000's which helps the nosediving and bottoming out under brakes and over bumps.
Will winding up (40-50mm) help the sponginess without stuffing the bars?

I'm buggered ??? ??? :( >:( :'( :'( :-\

If the suspension is stiffer, it will not flex as much as it would if it were softer.

Hi MentalMU

With cranked but standard T/Bs and more weight at the front you will still bottom out on the front more easily than you would with stiffer T/Bs even if you have stiffer shocks fitted, especially when dropping off rock shelfs etc. :-[ However you will gain extra ground clearance under steady state conditions. :)

Winding up your standard torsion bars will make it less likely to bottom out, but will have the same stiffness, firming up the shocks may make it feel less spongy

If you installed stiffer TB's with the same wound up ride height it would be even less likely to bottom out and feel stiffer on the road

There was an article maybe 6 months ago in the mag on the add a leaf to a MU kit and he didnt seem overly happy with the results

Adding a spring will stiffen your suspension a little.... so i guess you may lose a little articulation..... I'm going for the extended shackle option, will be interesting to see how it goes.

my jackaroo has a steel arb bar on it,And I just wound the bars up,replaced the front shocks with ome and I feel the stiffness of the suspention is the same as before, but with more hight. ;D
I would crank the bars up(30 min job) and then see how it feels,u can always lower it back down if u dont like it.

I guess the mu is somthing between a jackaroo and a rodao
so crank them bars up man!!!! ;D

I would avoid adding another leaf to the rear spring - had this done to my last rodeo when it sacked out the originals and it wrecked its off-road performance - it was great on the road as there was no body-roll, but off road it was just way too stiff - no articulation and no traction on rocky climbs.
With my current rodeo I went the other way and got softer but higher springs and it is great off road - you just got to be more restrained on the round-abouts.

Intersting story about cranked-up torsion bars - mine is up 25mm, and it has a pretty heavy steel bull bar. I put it in at my local mechanics the other day to get a trashed CV boot replaced, and he tells me that when putting it all back together it took three guys to get the nuts back on the ball joints - one on the jack and two putting all their weight on top to hold the thing down! - must of looked a sight. didnt have the heart to tell the guy that about a half dozen turns out of the preload would have made his life a bit easier.

What about a ball joint flip? Is this a good way to get some lift?
