There seems to be a lot of info about elder Rangies on this sight but what I would like to know is how the newer models perform right through to the current ones for that matter.

Mate the newer range rovers and landrovers are awesome offroad and the only problem I can see that if you were to use one offroad is bumper or sill damage is expensive to repair and how much offroad work would you do in a $100000 4wd.
here is my mates rangie

these pics here my mate could stop in these let us take pics then he just takes his foot off the brake and applies the accelrator and with out rolling back or wheels spinning the traction control looks after it all. It has airbag suspension all round and disconnects swaybars and the airbags transfers the air from one side to the other to maxmise wheel travel.

Thanks for the pics. They are the only ones of a modern Rangie I have seen doing it in the dirt. The reason for my interest is that I was passing an RR dealer and had a look at a new one and was impressed to say the least but also had reservations about the potential panel damage.

yeah my mate dosen't take it as far as it could go and alot of the time I will be going up the harder track while he is driving on the chicken track even though his car will kill mine everytime.

For clarification, that is a Range Rover Sport, which is the smaller of the two Range Rovers currently available new. It is based on Discovery 3 architecture, therefore is the "newest".
The full size Range Rover is now called the Range Rover Vogue. It is quite a lot bigger than the Sport and doesn't share many parts.
The Vogue recently got an engine upgrade from the BMW derived 3.0 6 cylinder turbo diesel to the 3.6 V8 turbo diesel (also available in Sport).
The petrol engines available in both are Jaguar derived, either 4.4 l naturally aspirated or 4.2 l supercharged. The Sport is also available with 2.7 l TDV6 power. All have 6 speed auto transmission.

Two resons, one, Im far to chicken Sh!t to cut my rangie up, and secondly I dont intend giving it such a hard time I would need one. I d rather take the chicken track now (been there done that and it costs a fortune to repair a buggered trauck) . That said never say never. Im still waiting information on a reasnable looking bar.
