I have done this job. I used king springs in front and EFS in back. Actually ended up being around 1 3/4 inch. But I am going to add shackles and spaces to go to 3 inches.
Two guys
Two trolley jacks a bottle jack
Some muscle, blood and sweat and a days work and you should be fine.

for a good lift kit at a really good price, talk to wooders garage (Homer | Wooders Garage - Online Store (http://www.wooders.com.au)). Also have a look at Gojeep Home Page (http://go.jeep-xj.info). I found them very helpfull.

the question is not who has done this, but who hasn't lol
there are a heap of kits available, just do a google search.
Rancho, Rubicon Express, Sykjacker, OME, etc etc
What type of lift? budget spacers or new coils and rear add-a-leaf?

just watch how high you go as you might find your driveshaft will drop out on full articulation. might need to get a slip-yoke eliminator and they arent cheap from memory.

I have done this to my XJ, an 96 ltd. Don't go with longer shackles unless you have good rear springs. I went a different route, the rear springs were to soft for the loads I carry, so I have HD springs which give me the upcountry lift I had, then added one inch blocks. On the front I am going to fit Explorer Pro Comp one inch spacers, these are not poly so won't deform and fit behind the isolators. Currently with out front spacer from center of hub to wheel arch center is 18 1/2 inches front and rear.
Stock Up Country fitted to diesels gives you a one inch lift the measure ments should be 18 1/2 front and 17 1/2 rear. The spacers will make a slight difference to the geometry so the tracking would need to be checked, head lights adjusted, etc.
As already suggested look at GoJeeps site Gojeep Home Page (http://go.jeep-xj.info/index.htm), Marcus knows his stuff. Also take a look at XJ lifts (http://www.lizards.net/albatross/liftspecs.htm), you will get an idea of some of the many varied routes taken to lift. Also visit Homemade Swaybar Quick Disconnects - Jeep at Off-Road.com (http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=257851) to sort your front disconnects for off road use.
Best of luck.

I found lifting the T/D XJ quite easy mine is at 5" above standed and is great on road & offroad. i found i did not need a SYE as much as the petrol XJ did due to the diff transfer case i had it put in once i went over 4"...visit Gojeeps site and also see Wooders for your parts
