I have been doing a bit of research into the series II disco's

I have read that the centre diff lock was "disengaged" on the 99 models or there abouts, and after 2001 the thing was taken off completely...

Is this true, and can anyone (who has owned both) add if this is such a big concern.

Also, can someone please clarify. I know that BMW took over the reigns somewhere along the line as did Ford i think??

Can someone shed some lights on this timeline and the changes that were made to the vehilce... I read somewhere the BMW installed Bosch electrics (well in the rangerover at least)

In terms of a LPG conversion, is there anything stopping the say 02-03 discos with the 4.0lt v8 in them being converted.

Thanks
Dale

Hi Dale,
I have a 2001 D2 TD5 which still had the "guts" of the CDL but no actuator(linkages). I had a genuine linkage kit supplied and fitted for around $700 by PCB LandRover in Adelaide. Apparently the CDL "guts" were removed after 2001 I believe the CDL was deamed not necessary in the D2 as traction control was introduced with ABS. It was then reinstalled with linkage in the 2002/2003 update with the cool headlights.
I have definately noticed the difference in sand, engaging the CDL and disengaging the traction control and ABS. Have not tested it rocky hill climbing yet.

Cheers

David

i have a 2000 td5 d2 with the cdl there but no acutator i could not bring myself to spend 700 odd dollars on getting a in car system fitted ,i would rather just climb under the vechile with a #10 spanner and manual engage it ,is that what getting out and 4wdriving is about ...getting dirty ,i spent the 700 on new suspension and its so much easier to climb under now and engage the cdl ,

i believe the cdl is a great addition to have on any 4wd rather buy one with and you might not use it than buy one without and forever want one

i have tc issues so i needed a cdl so i made a penetration though the gear box hump and use the tail shaft out of a wipper snipper to connect to the bolt on the centre diff its a little rough but it saves me getting out of the car and work great.

I have a 99 Disco V8 I dont have CDL activated and have never bothered to use it believe me if you dont have a lift you'll be caught up before needing CDL I quite like TC I think it great but, I also have lockers, CDL is that thing that I will get one day I think 99 01 had the bits there 02 03 it was removed and 04 put back in again at full function the reason why I havent done CDL is because im paraniod that I may blow my front CV with the lockers

Not fitting CDL with front and rear lockers is plain stupidity...and I think you've been told on other forums

It cause way to many stress's

I have a 2003 Disco II and the CDL is there and lockable in cab using the transfer case gear stick. So previous posts regarding it back in the 2004 is slightly wrong.

$300 to have a in cab cable lock. traction control is good in the mud ordinary in the sand great on rocky climes once you engage the center diff lock traction control and abs disengages this gives you maxamim traction be warned the abs is dangerous in mud as we spend a lot of time off road we have learned from experiance our vehicle is our 7day a week drive it has 270,00 ks up we have been all up through the cape most national parks its had a hard life no rattles no squeeks but you must be able to do all sensable maintance your self also traction control abs hdc lights have on for a year but who cares it has never stoped never missed a beat gear box got a bit noisey at 260000 ks so had it rebuilt cheers
