Legalities- Advice Needed

G'Day all!

Just need some advice. Buying a JK Wrangler 4 door and are considering some mods. Just want to check what I have been told. (Oh, located in Tasmania, although just want ballpark info).

2 Main mod's that may be issues in regards to legality are:

Tyres and Wheels:

Standard (on Placard) are 245/75R16's on 16x7 Rims. Max Tyres available OE are 265/75R17 (32") on the Rubicon 17x7 Rims (this is a factory option)
Sought: 33/12.5R17 on 17x9 Rims (wanted 285/75R16 on 16x8 Rims but can't get 16x8's evidently).

Lift Kits

Looking at Procomp Lift kit which had 4" Springs in front and 2" Spacers in Rear. Evidently JK's sit down in the front, so a 4" and 2" lift will level the vehicle. Otherwise, a 2.5" all round spacer kit will be the go.

Any help would be much appreciated. I want a nice truck, but nothing illegal.

Being in tassie myself and have modified a few myself i have looked into this a fair bit, basically its 50mm max in tyre size from manufacturers specs and 50mm also for the suspension.A50mm body lift is also allowed but doubt wether you would do this on a new car.
Any thing over 50mm must be engineered.
Check out the national code of practice for vehicle mods as the engineers in tas have adopted this even though its not set in concrete as yet.

The fact that the Rubi uses larger tyres than the other models has no relevance when looking at larger wheel/tyr combos for non Rubis. The Rubi uses different axles than the other models, so wheel brg size, etc., which are taken into a/c when choosing tyre size are different. The placard fitted to the vehicle is the correct reference.

Blu- Yup, I agree, however a 17x7.5" Wheel is an optional accessory from Jeep for non-rubicons as are the 255/75R17 Tyres that come standard with the rubicon.

So I am thinking that the 'base' tyre is measured from the Largest Factory Option.

Anyway, a 245/75R16 and a 285/70R17 (or the 33/12.5R17 that I am considering) are only 57mm Larger, I don't think people are going to quibble about 7mm. More worried about the 7.5" Rim to a 9" Rim.

That really is interesting. They should fit a new tyre placard with the wheels in that case.

Jeep dealers have been breaking the law for years, (31/10.50s or bigger are NOT legal in any state without engineering approval on a TJ).
