I have a 1997 turbo 2.8 litre diesel with intercooler and it runs rough as guts when it is cold. It has new injectors and glow plug. It has no problem starting but then proceeds to run rough and belch out heaps of smoke until the engine is warm then i will not have a problem all day until the next cold start. It hass been suggested to me that the injector pump needs a overhauling. Has anyone had this problem before if so what are your thoughts. Cheers paul.

Did you have any luck with this ? Mine has been doing the same thing for a while. I am about to change the plugs but I mechanic told me its probably a leaky injector. He reckons it is likely to be letting fuel into a cylinder over night and once it clears it runs fine.
I was talking to a guy a few weeks ago that bent conrods from the same thing.
Anyway if you solved it can you let me know. It will save me chasing it
please email me - d2@rollies.com.au if anyone can help

i have had the exact same problem. i have been told that timming for the glow plug needs to be adjusted.
I realise this is an old thread.
If it's glow plugs and they are new - glow it twice and see if it starts fine.
Doubt it's glow plugs if they are new.
Most likely a seals in the pump letting air in.
Quite common, especially with low sulphur diesel we have (I presume you do as well)
Take it to a diesel injector specialist & thet'll set you straght.
