Hi All,
I hope somebody can help me, I replaced the timing chain on my 95 NJ Paj 4M40 yesterday. The problem I have is I thought i had it on TDC before removing chain but the Harmonic balancer had spun and is stuffed, therefore it wasn't on TDC. I didn't realise until I had the chain off. Then to add to my dilema the book says there is 1 bright link and another 2 bright links on the timing chain. The new chain I got only has 1 bright link on it. My question is then, on the cam sprocket there is 2 marks, where have they got to be when the engine is on TDC?

Cheers,
Matt

Im not familiar with that motor but you obviously have the crank at TDC, so with the cam you could a) check the location dowl on the cam gear it shoul be at 12:00 (o'clock)thats on most mitsi donks b) allow the cam to go thru trhe strokes: both valves should be closed on no 1 chamber with the inlet valve about to open c) if you were familiar with the cam/crank positions with the old chain then count the links and relay that to the new chain
