We've recently bought a 4.8 2005 model and are interested in improving fuel economy. Has anybody done any modifications to a 4.8 and what have you tried. I'd like to know what works and what doesn't.

From what I've read, the 4.8 Patrols were the least economical of the large 4wds, so don't expect them to be like a normal car in their running costs. So apart from coverting to LPG, make sure your air filter and fuel filter are changed regularly and the tuning is as it should be. Also make sure your tyre pressures are right and you right foot is set on economy.
You can try using PULP instead of regular unleaded for better performance too. Other than that, exhaust changes may help, but with my experience, the fitting of extractors doesn't help as the increase in power you get usually means you like using the power, and the fuel consumption goes up with it.
