Welcome Tony, hope you enjoy our little neck of the woods mate, nothing like a hybridised rig dude, sounds good.

Just curious as to what size your chev actually is?

Hey Freak,

The engine was in the car when I got it. Not exactly sure of the specifics but I belive it started life as a 305 and has since been bored silly and stroked senseless.... They dude I bought it from told me it's out to 383, but who'd know. I'd really like to get a 400 and auto for it, but thats just part of the huge plan....

G'day mate and welcome.
I would not think about getting a 400 small block as they have siamesed bores on the two centre pots on each bank. What this means is that there is no water jacket between the two centre bores so they always run hotter. I ran one in a Hilux with Landcruiser running gear and even had to run different range plugs on the cylinders than on the outer ones. They are harder to cool because of this reason also. If you have a 383, it means you have a 350 block with a 400 crank which gives you the torque you need from the long stroke of the 400 but without the centre bores being stuck together. It is the best arrangement out there and you would not get benfit from the larger bore of the 400 block in a 4x4 as much as a road car anyway.

Thanks fot the tip Gojeep,

I have thought about that scenario, but the only drwback I have is lack of fundz....

Obviously (I guess)just putting in a fresh 400 is cheaper than
strokin a 350....
