GU on the way

Hi All

A quick intro. Just getting back into 4wding after 7 years or so out. I am lucky enough to be able to be buying a new ST GU wagon for my work which arrives in August so hence the name (I'll have to think of a new one once it arrives :)) So for the next few weeks I'll be driving all you all nuts with questions, particularly fellow GU owners!! I wish I had come across the forum a lot earlier as I am now going back to the dealer and driving him nuts making changes to my initial order (well when you pay 60 grand for a truck I guess you have the right!!)

Anyway its the 4.2 in Desert Gold. Through the dealer, to screw ARB and co down a bit more than I can on price, I've specced a TJM T15 alloy bar (mmm....not so sure about the alloy now though) with Warn winch to suit, Long Ranger 70 ltr auxillary tank, Rallye 4000's, 285/75 R16 BFG AT's, Oval tradesman roof rack and a underbonnet ARB compressor (for when I can afford lockers), ARB dual battery set up with Optimas, snorkel and ARB OME suspension kit. That will have to do for the moment as I have run out of the hard earned, but I think I've got a good set up to begin with.

As I am getting married in Sept the missus to be has told me I've got save money for that (whats wrong with the registry office I say!! :) :))

Anyway enough rambling from me.

Look forward to getting involved again

Cheers ;D ;D

Welcome aboard mate.

There are ways to keep wedding costs down.

Keep numbers to a minimum at the reception is a good start & choose a place that has less expensive food which is still of good quality.

Ours (about 10 years ago) was at a local RSL club ;)

Welcome, Good choice for the truck - I have just bought my first Patrol (After 8 years in Jeeps)and am VERY happy with it. Same colour as yours but with 3.0 ltr diesel) Went for the Steel Bar, BFGs, and a SatNav system, and then let Opposite Lock lift the suspension 50+MM , install winch and 80 ltr sub-tank (which I have since discoverd takes 81.5 litrs to fill it). Recently modified the False Rear lights so they all work. So far the truck has done everything and more asked of it. But it is a bugger to park and do tight U-turns.

Thanks GQANDGU. Did a lot of research before going with the 4.2. I have heard all the stories about the 3.0 ltr and know a guy at work whose motor let go at 25K (albeit pre 2002). In the end I kinda had difficulty with the thought of a 4 cylinder mtr pushing 2.5 tonnes of truck :) so I went the 4.2. Plus I figure the resale will be better (I lease) as their are not many 4.2's around. As for power well Im getting out of a 5.7ltr SS Commodore so it doesnt really matter what I buy its gonna seem a whole lot slower :)

Anyway I couldnt stretch the budget for a 100 series and I didnt like the IFS so the Patrol was a good bet. I personally reckon they look awsome too. I think the Cruisers got a bit soft looking (I'm ducking for cover now from the Cruiser owners!!) compared to my last Cruiser (an HJ60 I owned in the early 90's)

Cheers

I am getting a white 3.0 TD auto, it's a demo that has only got 190 km on the clock. It is a 9th 2003 plate car that they have had on display at the dealership for ages and nobody wants it( all want 2004 plate) so i bought it for $ 48000 with the bullbar, lights and towbar. Couldn't say no for that sort of money ;D

where are you going to get it serviced when your away?

I pick the truck up in August and I dont go till mid September so I'll clock up first service before I go so no drama there. I think service interval on GU is 5000??? If so I would reckon there must be a Nissan dealer in Alice Springs. Otherwise I'll ask for some advice on decent fourby service agents on the forum :)
