Mark Allen takes Toyota’s fourby family, the 100 Series, the Prado and the HiLux and puts them head to head to try and figure out which one is best for who. Come along and take an in depth look at the ins and outs of each, as well as on and off-road ability. Then we go for gold – literally – with Tim Scott in the drivers seat of Fords quick selling and quick moving Turbo Territory Ghia, out in the gold fields of Ophir. You want customs? You’ve got them in this issue! Our tasty selection this month starts off with a trick GU tourer, built on a serious deadline to get out to The Kimberlys. This is backed up by a Surf with the lot and a view to the comp scene. Next course will see you feast your eyes on a very cleverly decked out Pathfinder, complete with a home-built camper trailer that leaves some of the mainstream designs in it’s wake. Just when you thought that you couldn’t fit any more in, Brendan serves up one of Oz’s hottest comp trucks, Athol’s ‘blinged-up’ Suzuki buggy.

What’s black, round and full of air? That’s right, it’s tyres, one of the most crucial parts of your truck, both on and off road. We go in-depth and look at tyre wear and how to get the most out of your rubber. Brendan shows you how to get a high quality shine, proving detailing can be easy with the right products. We also show you how to go touring on a budget and look at buying a Holden Jackaroo second hand. Roothy and Hotlips take it all off. All of her panels, that is. John also finds out that it wasn’t as easy as he first thought it would be, but I guess that’s what 64 years of bush travel does. Mark Lowry also has a close look at driveshafts and axles, a crucial part of every vehicle.

The hardcore Tuff Truck site at Milbrodale, NSW played host to this year’s tube frame mangling final round of WE Rock. 2006, and the winner heads off to the US to compete against the best in the world. How’s that for a prize! While we’re on Milbrodale, don’t forget to enter your votes for who you’d like to see in 2007’s Tuff Truck Challenge, the voting form is in this issue. Pat and Roothy test out each other’s ingenuity in the Bush Mechanic Challenge, where they each take a sub-$2000 fourby and battle it out to see who’s driving skills and mechanical knowledge comes out on top. Then, Roothy takes the long way home, along the Plenty Highway and finds out that a whole lotta nothing can be more fun than it sounds. Our long time travelling Troopy also finds it’s way from Kalbarri to Perth, WA.

100 issues, yep, that’s more corrugations we’ve driven over than you can count, and we’ve loved every minute of it! Come for a ride back to where it all began, and meet the team that’s going to take the mag you love into the future. We also get an insiders view on the track closure political debate and look at the handy Aussie icon that is Aeroguard.
Three must-have products go to the 4WD Monthly test in this issue. Pat ‘I can’t cook to save my life’ Callinan tests Auspits great campfire rotisserie – and the results speak for themselves! GME’s latest offerings prove that toughness, functionality and practicality can be combined, as we test their popular hand held and in-car radios and the results of our long term Michelle’s Sacs seat cover test that you probably didn’t even know we were doing!
