Yokohama’s Tyre of the Future
Yokohama is now set to release the new generation of eco-friendly Geolander tyres.
But try not to get too excited, as the new Geolander range will be marketed at SUVs and smaller 4WDs.
These days tyre companies like Yokohama are trying to create eco-friendly tyres, and the new generation of Geolander’s definitely fit the bill.
Yokohama has employed its ‘BluEarth’ concept to this new range. What’s BluEarth you may ask? In a roundabout way, it incorporates a range of tyres that try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Or to quote Yokohama, they’re developing a tyre that is, “being both human and socially friendly combined with improvements to environmental performance”.
Take of that what you will; the moral of the story is the new tyre is built for the 4WD market and designed to lower fuel consumption while maintaining performance.
So while this tyre is mainly designed use by on road 4WDs, this is definitely a step in the right direction for the Japanese company. Who knows, with a bit of persuasion, we might see Yokohama make an eco-friendly set of 33in mud-slingers. That’ll be the day!
The new Geolanders will be available in Europe first up and Australia later on down the track. There will be 27 sizes available from 245/50 R20 102V to 205/70 R15 96H.
In your opinion, what kind of tyre will get you further off road?
