Flood Watch – St George

Balonne River near St George Queensland has peaked at 14m but is now residing.

The limit to the levee bank holding back the floods, according to Balonne Shire Mayor Donna Stewart, is 14.7m.

Thousands of people have been evacuated from St George as a precaution if the levee banks fail to hold the flood waters back.

Around 2500 of the 3000 residents of St George decided to evacuate after the call was sent out by SES on Sunday night.

Residents are expected to return to St George today to start the clean-up as the flood waters are currently holding. Thoughts of last year’s flood and the devastation that it brought still loom in the back of the minds of most residents.

Have you ever been caught out on the tracks during a flood crisis? What did you do?
